I've had two young female pigs for around 3 months now and have just treated them to a large 2 tier cage. I think it's easily big enough for another 2 pigs! My question is do u think I should add a pig then give it a little while then add another or add two pigs in 1 go?

Floor space is what counts so having a tier does not mean there is more space for extra piggies. No bought cage is enough for four. You would need to build a c and c cage.

work out the square meter size of your cage first and let us know what it is first (take measurements from inside not manufacturers measurements)

When I say tier I mean the second story has the same floor space as the ground excluding a 6x8 inch hole where the ramp comes through the entire floor space is about 1.5m square

I understand but only the first floor counts when calculating how many piggies can live there.

Hi there! Could you post a link to the hutch if its online anywhere or tell us the manufacturer and size and we can help you work out how many pigs it would accomodate :)

I just googled it. I'm afraid it is too small for two guinea pigs. They need at least 120 cm. Get a refund as they should never have sold you that for two guinea pigs.

I have a 3 tiered 120cm cage but it is separated into 3 different pens and houses five sows, the one on her own will be living with her neutered boar when he is ready.

I couldn't use it as a whole cage because they would all fight and would all stay on one level, it's just doesn't work.

Each pair of pigs need their own space which is at least 120cm by 60cm from what I've been told...

:)

I don't think it's big enough, that's less than a 120x60 which is minimum size from two so too small for the two you have

Hello :) The minimum size cage for 2 pigs recommended by the RSPCA is 120cm. These are only recommendations though, and shops are not legally required to offer or sell cages of this size. Sadly, I have seen cages of 80cm in length advertised for the use of 2 pigs.

Two-tiered cages are a little tricky, because although it may seem (with the best of intentions) that you are doubling the floor space, many piggies will not use the ramps and will stay on one floor anyway. If this were to happen, 100cm would be far too small for 4 pigs.

If you would like to expand your piggy family I would suggest either building your own c&c cage, or buying a second 120cm cage and housing a pair of pigs separately.

It depends of space but I would still go for 1 at a time.. dont want to risk your cute little piggies life :D Good luck :)

I have found that a puppy pen with correx on the bottom makes an excellent cage. Plenty of floor space and easy to clean. They are in half my bedroom so I get to hear little piggie noises whenever I go in x

They have litter trays (shallow ones) with newspaper and hay and I put boxes in there so that they can hide away if they want to.

Not sure re;bonding. I would be tempted to add two at once (in a neutral space, fully supervised) but I have never bonded any piggies.
