I have two piggies Smartie and Rolo now comming up to 6 years old, I noticed Rolo didnt appear to well this morning and Smarties was cuddling up to her and wouldnt leave her side. Taking Rolo to the vets tomorrow, Ive noticed in the last 3 weeks Rolo had been drinking alot of water and had not really been eating.

excess drinking can be a result of a number of problems, so if i was you id monitor the eating and take to the vets as you are doing anyway. I hope all goes well :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

welcome to the forums from me and the girls in oz. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: was told by my vet that a guinea pig doesn't show it's sick until it can't help it as in the wild a sick guinea pig would be attacked and killed by the pack to protect the pack from predators. smarties sounds sweet cuddling up to rolo, you must be a good piggy mum as your piggies going onto 6. hoping all goes well with rolo at the vet, sending hugs and cuddles from us in oz. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: good luck at the vet.

Yes,gps do have a sense of illness and death.

You are doing right in going to a vet.Excess drinking is mostly caused by renal problems.

Hi thanks for the welcome everyon O0

Well the news from the vet wasnt good, Rolo has cancerous growths around her kidneys :'(, I did feel for lumps before but didnt find any but the vet said only a vet would have been able to find them so it wasnt my fault. Apperently she is not in pain but wont live for much longer :'(, the vet said the best thing we can do now is pamper her and when she starts showing discomfort to bring her in so they can put her to sleep :-\ :'( I knew Smartie could tell Rolo was ill.

Ive just got back from the Pet shop and bought her loads of stuff ;D She has had a good life 6 years old and unlimited hay, and spinach during that time :). Not sure how Smartie will cope when Rolo goes but will have to cross that bridge when it comes to it, I'm so happy though that Smartie is looking after Rolo :smitten:, they used to have the arguments but deap down they are the best of friends.

aww so sorry :'( atleast shes had a long, happy life and hopefully she will be around a while longer so you can keep pampering her :smitten: :smitten:

so sorry to hear that rolo is ill and that it is terminal. sending hugs and cuddles to you rolo and smartie. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: think i read somewhere that too much spinach causes kidney stones. really glad you and smartie are taking great care of rolo. :-* :-* :-* :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: hoping she is around for a long while yet to give you and smartie more love and joy. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: sending you hugs and cuddles from me and the girls. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I would say some pigs definitly know when something isn't right. When we lost a pig one of mne started singing like a bird. I think some pigs are more in tune than others, my other boar was terrified and ran away!

thats exactly what happened to our 2 previous pigs......both had lumps, but both were lively, eating, drinking and running about as usual.....when the 'time' came, both just passed away during the night (on seperate occasions) without any prior notice of going off their food/water etc,.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. 6 years is good for a piggie so well done you! Maybe you could give Smartie a teddy to cuddle up to?

I've just caught up with this thread. So sorry to hear about Rolo :'( However, it sounds like she had a very very good life with you and 6 years is an exceptional age. Sending hugs to you and Smartie :smitten:

I have just read this thread and so sorry when I got to the posting about Rolo passing away! :'(
I am sure that Rolo had a lovely six years with you and Smartie.
How is Smartie getting on without Rolo?
