I have two satin piggies, 3 and 2 years old. I was wondering if as they have showed no signs of illness if they'll be able to live a normal full life or whether they'll still develop osteodystrophy later in life? Obviously hoping for the former

Satin syndrome

Found post linked below that mentions not all satin gene carriers develop osteodystrophy. You may find the above link interesting.

Satins?

Been interested in this topic myself as I suspect one of my piggies may be satin.

They may still have it or go on to show symptoms sadly, although not all do, some satins and carriers never develop the disease. My 2 were 2.5 and 3.5 years old when diagnosed, we only discovered Shelly had it at 3.5 because I did a Halloween shoot with a pumpkin and she ate quite a bit, the amount of phosphorus in it caused a calcium crash leading to her to start limping and bunny hopping, otherwise we may never have known! They really are masters at hiding pain and illness.
It would be a good idea to have them xrayed as a precaution, its what I plan on doing with any future satins or carriers I end up with.
