So I just have a question. Can a guinea pig injure itself and still run around, squeak, popcorn?
She was stepped on. She was brought to the vet, and they gave me syringe food and pain med since she wasn't eating well and seem to be in pain a little. The vet said it could be a soft tissue injury. So I'm giving her afew days and if she doesn't start eating than she's gonna have to get an x-ray and it's hard since I don't really have the money for one atm. So I'm hoping her popcornig and running around and squeaking is a good sign that she will be okWhat do you mean? What degree of injury? What happened to your piggy?
Sadly all animals no matter how big or small will likely need vet treatment in their life and it’s advised to keep a vet fund going in case if a situation like this.
If your pig is running around and popcorning it doesn’t sound like pain but I’m confused. Your pig stopped eating? So are you syringe feeding her? The two don’t marry up for me. If a pig is in pain yes then it will stop eating mostly and lose weight (hence we advise to weigh weekly). It wouldn’t be running around.
Please weigh your pig and watch for weight loss. If advised to syringe feed then keep going - it’s important to keep their gut moving and additionally try and keep them quite until they are feeling better.
you I was advised to syringe feed since she's having trouble eating her hay and pellets. She loves her syringe food basically eats it out of the syringe herself. Gets very happy when I feed it to her. But stuff like pellets, hay and some of her greens besides pretty much just lettuce and some zucchini she doesn't touch of had a hard time eating. The vet looked at her mouth and does not see any problems. But she recommended an x Ray in the next few days to see the problem if syringe feeding and the pain medication doesn't help. But I just wanted to see if he being happy is a good sign in the right direction.Sadly all animals no matter how big or small will likely need vet treatment in their life and it’s advised to keep a vet fund going in case if a situation like this.

I want to have the x ray done but I can't afford it atm, idk what to do I feel like such a terrible owner.Your piggy needs to be eating a lot of hay and if she now can’t or won’t do that, then there is something wrong. Please do have the X-ray done. Also ensure you syringe feed plenty of times a day to ensure her weight stays up. Nibbling on a bit of veg is not enough.

I want to have the x-ray done but I can't afford it atm idk what to do. I feel like such a terrible ownerIf she’s not eating properly I wouldn’t wait to see if the pain meds work. I feel she should have had that X-ray done when you initially took her.
I would suggest you start weighing her at the same time each day to monitor. If she is losing weight then you have to up the syringe feeding to help her maintain.
Try and get an appointment for her before the weekend. And let us know how it goes.
I'm trying, I don't know a lot of my relatives and the ones I know I'm not really close with. In trying everything I can do to get the money. Can you borrow money from a friend or relative?
Amzing news. Someone with a big following put out an amazing tweet and post on her Instagram for the go fund me and it already raised around 500 in less than a half and hourCan you borrow money from a friend or relative?
Not sure if the PDSA might be an option too?Talk to your vet about it and see what they can offer. Some veterinary practices offer payment plans and if not some have contacts that you can call to see if they’d lend any money. I know in the UK (if you’re located here) charities like the RSPCA might possibly put some money towards it.
I do agree with the others that an X-ray is necessary. Guinea pigs are prey animals and exceptionally good at hiding pain. Ask for an estimate from the vet if they haven’t already given you one. They might allow you to pay what you can on the day then pay a set sum weekly? The worst case is perhaps surrending her over to them or again a charity?
I took her to a different vet since my Normal vet is on vacation and wouldn't be available till Monday. I don't think this one specialized in guinea pigs. The vet I went to is mostly dogs and cats but they do see small animals. There gonna send the x-ray to a specialist to take a look atThat’s great news people are very kind and generous - now you can arrange the X-ray and have her checked thoroughly.
Is your vet a specialist in guinea pigs ? Good luck to you and your little girl
My guinea pig seems happy and is eating her syringe food willingly along with her her pain meds. She has an appointment Monday for the x ray. The accident happened a week ago today so I hope she will be ok. I raised over 800$ through go fund me to help the vet bill for her since I was not able to pay for it at first. So hope everything will be ok and that she won't be needing surgeryGood luck and that’s good about the Vet contacting a specialist in piggles - how is your girl today ?
are you ok ?
Thank youCrossing my fingers that your piglet is okay.
Sending positive healing vibes your way. ♥![]()

She was always moving around and playing no problem. She just stopped eating properly and not eating hay at all. She's actually currently at the vet getting her x ray and some other test done.So is she moving around and eating for herself now?

Update: so she went to the vet and after being there for afew hours getting her x-ray and some other tests done. The vets there didn't find anything. They sent her x-ray/radiograph to a specialist to take a look at and see if they can help figure out why she stopped eating her hay.Your piggy needs to be eating a lot of hay and if she now can’t or won’t do that, then there is something wrong.
