On behalf of the forum here is a statement we made with our stance

"The forum is aware of the work of the Cambridge Cavy Trust (CCT) and British Association of Rodentologists (BAR). In accordance with UK law only a qualified veterinary surgeon can diagnose, test, treat and perform surgery on an animal. There are only very limited exceptions to this which can be found in the RCVS Code of Conduct Section 19 Treatment of animals by unqualified persons - RCVS. Although some qualified veterinary surgeons may have taken the BAR rodentology course the majority of rodentologists hold no professional veterinary qualification. The CCT is not a registered veterinary practice.
Whilst the forum accepts that members are free to seek help and advice for their pets from wherever they choose the forum does not condone or support the use of the CCT or BAR and encourages all members to seek advice from a qualified veterinary surgeon."

I am a member and find it value for money but mainly just for general checks, handy she isnt far away as she will do a mite check and teeth check every 3 months, the basics id have to pay more for over the year at my local vet and they dont really check for mites, I'm confident she is able to do these basics without causing risk. She has pointed out a potential illness which proved correct in one of my pigs .. that even my vet missed, so although not a vet i do.trust to a certain degree from a level of experience as an owner etc similar to some on this board. I do know though she is not a substitute for a vet so anything needing medical attention i seek from a vet not herself.

I trained with Vedra and she knows more about guinea pigs health issues and wellbeing than any vet I know and I have been to many with my guineas, that's why I trained at the CCT, my vet admits to having learned most of what he knows about guineas from me. Rodentologists can't legally do invasive procedures but can trim and file teeth and treat skin conditions etc I have also suggested any health issues to owners and recommended a cavy savvy vet to the owners, usually the vet I use, please do make use of Rodentologists because we are trained in Guinea pig health and care, vets can choose to learn about cavies if they wish but not necessarily to pass their exams. I have every respect for vets but many are found wanting regarding Guinea pig care.
