Guinea Slave
Adult Guinea Pig
As some of you may have been following. My little girl Cagney went down with Pneumonia last week. She seems to be recovering OK so I am tentatively looking forward to re introducing her to the herd when she is better. However I do have some serious concerns and just wondering what peoples thoughts are?
I have a herd of 4 now. All been together for about 2 years now. 1 mature boar who is about 4. 2 girls who are 4 and one girl who is 2. A while ago I had a mature 'matriarch' sow (Bella) who sorted everyone out in a quiet way and made sure everyone behaved to ensure the boy did not have to get bolshy. She sadly died back in March.
Since then Cagney (who has been bottom pig all this time) has been progressively bullied by the boy Sebastian. I am worried this has caused her immune system to dip and the Pneumonia to happen. He does not draw blood, or bite or anything like that. Just chases her about. When she became ill he tried to prevent her from eating by blocking her in. She is very wary of him. Their cage is 22square feet so she has room to get away from him.
I dont have many options. I have divided the cage up before but that stresses her out and she then is very hostile to whoever goes in with her (she tore her sisters ear). Really they all need to be in together. When we had Bella the issue was not so prevalent as Sebastian rarely got involved in domestics.
My husband suggested we try to find a mature 'matriarch' who can perhaps bring order back the herd. Which I do think is a good idea. (I will take them 'herd' dating to a rescue)
Just wondering what your thoughts are?
