Hiya,

Well, I recently switched from Aspen to fleece, and so far I am pleased with the results... except for one thing. It smells!

I followed all the instructions I could find. When I got the cage, I washed and dried the fleece 3 times. I know the pee thing is working, because the fleece is totally dry, but the towels are soaked!

The smell starts after the first day of changing. Maybe it was always there, but the smell of the aspen just shielded it?

Currently, I completely change fleece and towels ever 3 days. My piggies are in around 8 square feet (temp housing till I get my C&C). I have two females. They are not litter-trained.

Am I doing something wrong? Is this normal?

Help appreciated!

Hey! I know this wont work for everyone, but i was having the same problem as you, the towel seemed to be soaked and smell after 2 days with my boys! However, i have now started putting pampers disposable baby changing matts under the towel. I find this makes my fleece last 4 days instead of two (but i have smelly messy boys!) :) They are about £4 for 12, and i need 3 for my 3 and a half buy 2 grid downstairs area and 1x2 hay loft. (i use 2 on the bottom they are 60cmx60cms and then the third has to be cut up to fit the area thats left and the hay loft.) I have found this makes my routine much easier, and i thought id share. :)

I'm selling cage liner's, i can leave mine a week with no smells

I know this sounds awful but are you putting too much stuff in the washer ?
I use vet bed and would almost cram stuff in to save time mallethead and it would smell after a day or two so now just put in 1-2 pieces depending on the size and it smells really fresh for days :))

Guinea pig slave- I'm sorry, but I really don't understand you.... mallethead

chloed- Yes, how much?

4piggiepigs- How much? Do you ship?

Connie- great idea, thanks! Do you use these under, over or instead of towels?

Thanks!x>>

I use these under the towel (because my towel is sewn to the fleece) But i believe if you used them instead they would need changing more regularly.

Price depend's on size of your cage and i would ship at your cost, have you tried * haul blanket's some people use them in america

Aw, I see about the pampers. Well, if I can't get a cage lining I'll definitely try those! x>>

Checked out the blankets. Looks like another good option. 4piggiepigs, do you ship to canada?

I can do, the liner's are light but i don't know how much it would be and you may also have to pay some import fees (i would mark it as a gift tho)
