Hi i have been in contact with the only piggy rescue within a 400km radius and thought it was all going perfectly when she told me a nero 4 wasnt big enough for 2 piggies if this is true i know have to not only get another nero 4 for the new babies(which i would have anyway)but she wants me to add large runs onto both cages before she will consider me for adoption it will cost me around $400 aussie dollars to do this is it really nescesary i meen my pigs seem to be thrilled with a nero4,outdoor run and playtime with us :{

Nero 4 is big enough 4x2 is the size. But each rescue has its own ideas I guess. What size was she suggesting?

How odd. 4x2 is more than enough 3x2 is the minimum and for winter I have to use my smaller cages indoors for a pair to get them in but they get floor time and still popcorn the nutcases! :(|)

anyone else have ideas on whats suitabole and how should i approach getting a rescue piggy if she is being unfair there are no others a it is this one is in the closest state to me

All you can do is give her the literature on what is the requirements, if she won't accept that there isn't much you can do. Each rescue works differently. Are there no free ads you could rescue a pig from in your area?

Sorry but rescues like this are their own silly worst enemies. It sounds as if you provide very well for your pigs.
Do these rescues actually want good homes for their animals? I suggest that if you want to rescue pigs you just wait and you will probably hear of some unwanted child's pets or accidental litters much closer to home. Give those deserving pigs a home.

hi that sounds like a good idea but i already rescued a baby from a petshop and i didnt want to upset anyone or help or encourage needless breeding thats why i thought a rescue would be better but if i have everyones support on here i will start waiting for the next needy pigs:)

Usually free ads are needy pigs too. I have Radley here who was a 5 month old when I got him. He is an Aby Xridgeback gorgeous he is but had already fathered 2 litters before I got him and I paired him up with Sunshine and they get on great.

People will argue that this isn't how rescuing works, but when you have no rescue in your area (like me) then what can you do. I never pay for animals from free ads unless I really had to, free to good home is what I go for,not that I am unwilling to pay but if they are giving there animals up then I don't want to give them money to possibly replace them.

I've nothing against where animals come from and nobody should be made to feel bad because they have opted for a petshop pig, because sometimes there just isn't the choice of rescue available and sometimes rescues make it so hard to rescue from them. :)

thanx i will keep my eye out for piggys then so if anyone has piggys that need a home in Oz pm me just in case you are in driving distance from me thanks for your help sunshineandtwinkle;)

that is a great point she seemed very stuck in her ways though maybe one day she will realise.i have a four bedroom house so i am lucky enough that i gave the piggys there own room and they love it but how many nero4's with a joined run can i seriously fit in one room considering Boris is still in a seperate cage due to recovery and my sister has her hutch in the same room for at least another 3 or 4 months, if she wants all my cages and runs that big for two pigs then i am very limited on expanding my guinea family,and i am really sitting here thinking i have the room,the love to give,the funds and the time so i think i should be able to have a large guinea family on my terms which are quite sensible i think not hers:{

Is this the rescue sanctuary you went to:

http://www.australiancavysanctuary.com/ I saw you were given the link on a different thread. They seem in desperate need of homes and its sad that they are not willing to look at what you can offer.

I hope you are able to find a piggie soon.

I feel bad for the piggies at that rescue. You have a loving home and plenty of room and they would be wanted & loved, which is the most important thing. She's really hurting her own cause, but what can you do?

I am like you, there are no rescues in my area whatsoever, unfortunately. mallethead

This person sounds like she wants you to buy the cages from her so she can make money. Have you looked in the local newspapers or in pershop windows to see if there are any pigs in need of a home? Also, keep intouch with your local vets! :)p

Nero 4's are big enough for two, but give them regular exercise outside or floor time, mainly because guinea's love to run in bursts lol

yes it is australian cavy sanctuary its sad that she is that fussy i was offering a great home and she missed out.I know I'm being silly but i dont want to purposly look in a petshop for piggys.Good news everyone and so quickly my sisters two pigs that live here she has decided to sell them to me.she has been visiting for about a week now but i have had the pigs for over a month and the whole week she has been here she has half looked after them and not tended to there needs properly,also she has barely any cash and she wont have her own place for some time and with a $100 offer she agreed to sell yayaya i was actually worried about the piggys going with her and me not being there to pick up the pieces i meen i told her the other day look after your piggys i went in there and decided to do a random check on hers and founf that they had dirty poo water,24hr ol veges,no hay because she doesnt believe it important:...and they hadn't left there cage all day so i guess i am saving them huh?you have **** seen or heard about them in other threads before its Smokey and Bandit

Most rescues are asking for big cages with attached runs; but by having mine roaming free during most days, my smaller cage (with a flap in the side and a platform added) was usually accepted.

People who are insisting too much on just the proper space and not the quality of a home are their own worst enemy! Sad but true!
