Hello pet enthusiasts,

Two long hair guinea pigs in a small cage. They have been with us for 2-3 months.

Looking at getting a larger cage but thinking about the amount of bedding required. The new cage would be 4' x 2'. That would require alot of disposable paper fibre bedding. We don't want to use fabric/sheet because it seems to dirty for the washing machine used for clothes.

Any suggestions for easy cleanup?

Thanks

:wel:. To the forum.

There are lots of choices of bedding, with pros and cons to each. This is our advice thread

Bedding For Guinea Pigs - Overview

Maybe some of the brands are UK brands... But you should find equivalents.

I like the hemp base equine bedding (just make sure they are unscented)

I also use fleece bedding.... Which I wash in a wash bag.

The link posted above will provide you with plenty of information.

Whatever disposable bedding you go for, you are still going to go through a lot of it.
My boys live in a 5ft by 2ft hutch in my shed and are bedded on hay in the hutch, and yes, I get through a lot of it! They also have fleece on the shed floor (which they have daylight hours access to as their play area) but when I’ve washed their fleeces I then put a disinfecting cleaning solution through the washing machine before using the machine again to wash our clothes.

I have never seen a problem with putting dirty animal fabrics in the washing machine, it's all rinses out through into the sewer, and then when you do you're own, its cleaning yours totally. I would prefer animal poo and urine over baby in my machine. Obv it sup to you 👍. I've never had a problem from it

I use a horse wash bag .. saves any hairs getting in my machine... no poo ever gets in the machine lol
I don't know why I said poo, I always shake the fleece off outside, really hard and end up covered in hay myself lol.
