Hello everyone.

I am thinking of changing the shape of a 2 X 6 C and C cage with same sq feet , could you please give me some shape ideas thank you.

This would be for three girls and one boy.

Ask long as you use the same number of grids (16) then it should be fine. It depends where you’d be putting it. 4x4 would work. Can’t think of any more.

Why not try putting your grids together with loose cable ties and experiment? Once you decide what shape works best you can add the plastic joiners and tighten the cable ties. A 4x4 (16 square) would actually give a good bit more floor space than a 6x2. (12 Square), L-shaped would be either 12 or 16 Square depending on how long you make the long sides.... Or you could make a triangle if you want to fit it in a corner.... Can't work out what that would calculate to.... 🤔

"We'll never need to know Pythagoras' theorem outside of stupid maths classes!"

I'd agree with the 4x4 square. That's what I technically had my last pair in and I found it worked much better than the L shape.

O.k thanks for that.

The biggest issue with a square is it takes up more of the room than the rectangle or L shape would. I know that sounds daft but think of it as putting in the equivalent of a sofa and a bench. The bench fits against the wall, whereas the sofa juts further into the room. It worked for me because I had two sofas (well, it was a rented place, and it came with two sofas) so two walls got a sofa and the back wall got bookcases, and their cage went on the floor in the middle of the room. They were well adjusted (as can be anyway) to being in the room like that so it wasn't a massive issue for them, they still went bonkers when they felt like it even if strange people were in the room.

It can also be harder to clean out, depending on your access to the sides. Ideally you'd want to be able to get at at least 3 - it's a lot harder to reach across 4ft than to reach across 2ft.

This is very true and thanks for your help.🙂

The beauty of a big cage is you can climb in it to clean. I've got a 3 x 5 and kneel in the middle to poop pick, on fleece changing day I can just to reach to fold the corners in, fold it all up to the middle and take it out to the veg patch and shake it out.

The good thing about having a cage 2 grids wide is that you can have it on table tops, thus saving your back.

This is very true as well.

I think mine is bigger but I’ve made an L shape to fit the room mine live in.

Thanks for this, your cage looks lovely. How many guinea pigs have you got? I think I can see five. How did you join the sheets together to make your tray shape? And we're did you get the sheets for the tray? I love the cage looks great.

Just bear in mind just because you have the space doesn’t mean you should put in that number of piggies. For four I would try and go up to 2x7. By the time you put on hides etc then you’ve cut down on space, sort of. Just my opinion though ☺️

I see what you are saying, I will consider making bigger were I can.

Hello again, I don't know how to put this in my other thread about cage size and shape.

I found a photo of a guinea pig cage would this be the same as a 2 X 6 grid C and C cage in sq feet and you could still have four guinea pigs in there? This is what I am thinking of doing does this sound o.k?

Yes, that would be fine for four sows.

For the future, it may be best to just hit reply if you have something to add if the edit time runs out to avoid creating so many new topics. :)

Oh o.k thanks, not used to this.

I have 4 piggies - a husboar with 4 sows.
I bought the c & c cages and then joined them with strong tape.
A bit of cutting was needed to make everything fit but it gives the herd plenty of space to live in.
I buy from C & C Cages - possibly not the cheapest but excellent service and very easy to put together
