My 2 sows have lived in an outside hutch over Spring/Summer since we got them, with the plan to sort them out indoor housing for the autumn. However, as one of them fell ill suddenly last week we had to grab an indoor cage to bring her inside. It is fine for her on her own to recuperate in but it won’t be big enough for 2 - I think it is the 100 from Pets At Home.

Thing is it’s getting cooler here so I want to bring in our other pig, but as they’re not quite ready to go in together yet I was wondering if I got another 100 for her if it would be feasible to connect them to each other to make one big cage when they can share again? Does anyone know if this would work and provide a big enough space?

I love the look of the C&C cages I’ve seen on threads here and that is what we’d be looking at in future, but I need a short term fix. They are only small at the moment so next year we will probably think again.

If you go into YouTube type in “connecting two cages together”- there’s a short video of a girl doing it with two cages like the ones you’re talking about. I have a 120 and will probably get another 120 and attach them the way she did. I’ll see if I can find it for you.

So it looks like she lifted up the ends then cable tied them together. This would only work if your cage is a collapsible one?

Hi - thank you! I’ve had a look and I think this could work as it does seem to come apart like that. It’s the kind where one whole side lifts up to get in it so wondering if I could do them side by side. The frustrating thing is there are no smaller “doors” that I can see so would probably have to lift the whole thing off.

Yes you could do side by side, I’ve seen others do that. Take some photos! 😊

I might be more inclined to do end to end just for ease of access- it would give them a good stretch of running space! Mine are just babies and sometimes they run so fast it’s like a blur haha!

Yes I agree end to end would probably be better I’m just trying to imagine where it’s going to go! I’m
going to have to get the tape measure out and do some thinking. I will go ahead and get the cage to bring her in though now I know it can be done, will just have to rearrange the house around the guinea pigs!

If you're intending to get c&c eventually, why not get some instead of a second cage and attach that. That way you wouldn't be left with 2 cages when you eventually switch. Here's a picture of what I did, although they're now in a total c&c.IMG_20171211_0753399_rewind.webp

You could use one of the larger log roll tunnels from p@h as a bridge between the 2 cages so you wouldn't need to cut the sides lower?

Ideally, we would have done that but we got a bit caught out with our first pig falling ill, hence buying the cage, and then last night the outside temperature dropped suddenly (it’s been summer-time mild here up until yesterday) and I felt like I couldn’t leave piggie 2 outside and didn’t have the time and they can’t go together yet. So I think we’re just going to make the best of it this winter. Thanks for the photo, it’s really useful to see what others have done.

Yes I think will try that. I’m not especially DIY savvy, so don’t want to attempt anything irreversible 😬
