We just built our first C and C cage but have an issue or two that I'm hoping to solve.

The connectors were sort of bulky so we made the coroplast base to fit taking them into account. However that meant there's quite a gap between the edge of the coroplast box and the grids. An inch gap or just under in the corners especially. Our coroplast edges are not very high - about 4 inches as that was the max we could do with the size sheet we had. Using fleece so hoping that's not a prob.

Was worried our girls might get a foot caught though in the gap? We're just starting with fleece and have a giant piece so at the moment I've used a bulldog clips to clip the fleece to the grid so the gap is covered but wanted to make liners with no edge bit - just covering the base.

I've been trying to see in the photos in the gallery but it is hard to see the detail. Should we get more coroplast and go again on the base/box and make it bigger - how does that fit with the connectors - does it sit on top of them with a gap under the coroplast? Would appreciate any advice. :help:

You could use tie wraps to join your grids, a more secure method of construction. It might be an idea to work along both sides so that the pen doesn't end up smaller than the correx.

I agree with the above suggestion of using cable ties to hold it together but I also wouldn't be overly concerned about them getting stuck in the gap, nothing's impossible but I think if a guinea did somehow get on the wrong side of the correx it could get itself back again.

I guess it depends on how adventurous your piggies are! I've ended up with quite a gap between my correx and grids but it's never been a huge issue. Admittedly my sides are 6 inches but even still I doubt my boys would have showed the least bit of interest in trying to get in the gap. Especially if you've enough hideys and toys in the cage I'm sure there's no need to worry! :)

Same, none of mine have bothered. I have one c&c connected with cable ties and another with the connectors and there's still a bit of a gap. To be honest I hadn't thought about it before until I brought Hamish home- at 8 weeks he was still tiny enough to fit in the palm of my hand and I worried if he'd try and climb and fall and get a leg caught but its been fine. You could fold the fleece over the correx then use bull dog clips to clip the correx sides to the grid, I used to do that :)

One of mine is adventurous, lily, she tries to climb up on the bars to say hello or beg for food and sometimes stumbles down onto the gap, as shes very clumsy! But she is well able to right herself and clearly isn't fused as she will do this often!

Thanks everyone. Much appreciated. Looking forward to our new grids arriving so we can build the base and stand.

Ive got connectors in corners and never hsd an issue mine is 5 years old and has had a variety of pigs young and older. Ive cable tied the middle ones and connectored the corners
