i live downstairs, i have a large c&c cage with my 4 sows. i don't listen to loud music and i watch my tv with the volume really low. i'm still fairly new to having them and almost everytime i move an arm or sit up they all run away as fast as they can. i've bonded with one of my piggys but i believe shes preggers now and she's keeping her distance. i'm wondering if this is because of their cage location? i haven't handled my very new ones much. i'm just a little confused if this is normal behavior or not.

Hi
My pigs live in my living room - just next to the sofa. When we first got them they would literally run back into their hideys if I moved an arm slightly or coughed from the sofa, now they are more brave and only run away if i loom over the cage. I think having them around you all the time is a good thing as they get more used to you.

Hi and welcome to this fab, helpful and friendly forum. I don't have indoor piggies but I read a lot on here so can you tell up what cage they have where in the room your cage is eg on the floor next to the door etc

There are lots of people who do keep their guineas in their bedroom. I have read though that it can cause allergies.

I think if you are in a large bedroom and they are no too close to where you sleep and it is reasonably well ventilated you may be ok. I do suppose it also depends on the type of bedding you use too though.

Hey,

I keep my piggies in the bedroom as my brother didn't want them anywhere else, I've have six in total and i use Fitch bedding as the wood shavings and other beddings made me sneeze and cough, Fitch has never done this.

Sometimes the hay makes me sneeze first thing the morning but then it stops...

I spend quiet a lot of time up here but i don't have a TV in my room and listen to music with headphones so there's not any loud noise for them, i think the more time you spend in the room the more they will get use to you!

Mine climb the bars when i come in the room and are really friendly! :)

thanks everyone! hopefully they'll just get used to it all over time. i use fleece & hay in the back

I live in a studio so mine are always with me. They used to hide when I moved about but they do not do that very much now. They will soon get used to you.

Mine live in my living room. They get used to the tv pretty quickly.

You may find that piggies get up, browse and popcorn/play at night even though they are mainly daytime pet. Youngsters are either VERY LOUD or they are fast asleep, but this goes round the clock. If you are not a very good sleeper, I wouldn't recommend piggies in your bedroom if you have other options!

not me i'm worried about at all i love having their company thanks everyone

I've got my elderly single guinea in my room - he gets more attention there and is always sat out, not fussed by the tv or any music.

He's on newspaper and hay as its his favourite bedding. In us. We I leave my bedroom window open as the hay can get my hay fever and it gets warm. Never hear Artie over night - he's so quiet.

Ie got 2 hamsters - they only wake me if they chew the bars a lot - that's when earplugs are my friend!

I currently have my 6 in my bedroom. They are indeed loud at times, but I'm used to loud so can usually sleep through them bashing water bottles or yelling at each other during the night. I also am allergic to their hay, so it gets my allergies going a bit sometimes. I've also noticed my room gets very stuffy if I have my door closed, even with the window open at night while it's nice. I don't know, I've learned to live with it all, lol.

luckily i moved in my basement its quite big and not too chilly for the pigs . they have their spacious cage and i dont mind their noises and doings at night its comforting in a certain kind of way (:

so happy my little ones finally started using the ramp today they're so excited and running up and down very happy. i separated my expecting pig to a cage directly built into the one with the other sows, i read this is correct seeing as shes going to pop at any day now, she seems content but also seems like she wants the company of her sister.
