Hi, so we are going to extend the girls' C and C soon and have ordered some cage liners from Hammocky Hammocks (we currently use newspaper and / or puppy pads and wood shavings) plus pee pads.

So, I understand the cage liners have an absorbent 'core'. Will I also need a layer under the liners, e.g. puppy pads, newspaper....?

I've got Ziggy Piggie liners and did have puppy pads under them when I first used them. After that, never had a need to waste the puppy pads as they weren't wet even a little bit.

I don't have an absorbent layer under mine, but I do have a waterproof bed sheet with a 'flocked' top down to protect the correx.
I change the liner weekly, and only change the waterproof sheet if urine has clearly leaked through, which is probably about once a month.

I don't have anything under my liner but for the first time ever (only had them 4 months lol) there was staining on my correx this past weekend when I did the cage clean. It was in a corner they've taken to wee'ing in and i didnt have a piddle pad there.
As long as you place piddle pads in high wee areas you won't need anything under the liner.

I have ordered liners today so glad u asked this as it was something I didn't think about so thank you for asking :-) x

I made my own liners and piddle pads.
Piddle pads are really easy to make, just sew 2 pieces of fleece together with a piece of a towel or a facecloth in the middle.

Thank you everyone! Super helpful as always. Sounds like we don't need anything underneath but piddle pads are essential. Just hope we have enough. I think making our own sounds a great idea @GPcrazy......a project for my daughter maybe!

Oooo face cloths as inners. Good idea. Going to be making some of these.
I've remembered I have a huge pile of old facecloths that I bought when the kids were younger and I was trying to cut down on the number of baby wipes we got through after meal times!

Hi @loppetspigs I'm not too sure to be honest. I bought my liners ready-made. You might be best to start your own thread as you will probably get more responses that way.

Mine are from Ziggy's Piggies too and I don't use anything underneath them.
