Hey,

So I've finally learnt how to use my sewing maching and I'm thinking of making some cage liners up!

I was wondering what people use?

I've heard of mattress toppers - but do people really mean 'toppers' or 'mattress protectors'? I'm not sure how you could wash a mattress topper? :{

Also do people generally just do - fleece, mattress protector, fleece? Or should something else go in there to make it more absorbant?

Oh and finally! Can anyone recommend any good places to buy fabric?

Thanks :)

I use mattress protectors - had an old one going! I have fleece on top and two layers of mattress protectors! Then a layer of newspaper at the bottom. I like the mattress protectors as they are white and I can check for discolouration of pee. I could only make 2 so on cleaning days I also have a large bath towel I use doubled up! This works just as well, however, I find the mattress protectors will dry pretty quickly, good for washing days and I assume this is the same for the pee, whereas the towel may stay damper for longer in the cage - resulting in a damper atmosphere?
I got my fleeces from primark and dunelm mill in their pet section not the human fleeces! £3 at primark and £4 for a larger size in dunelm mill! It was washing them three times that annoyed me as I just couldnt wait to get it in the hutch!

I used that tutorial to make mine and they work brilliantly. I got a cheap King size mattress protector from Argos and that gave me enough to make 2 liners for a 4x2 C&C. I believe the top has to be 100% cotton though.

I use a single layer of newspaper underneath and it always stays dry. Wee used to leak through the single layer in places, but now I have two litter trays in the corners that they favour and that collects most of the mess, so a single layer is fine for my 2 boars.
