Hello!
I've been using fleece, towels and newspapers since I had my girls and it's great, apart from them burrowing under it all the time! (I have two small fleece blankets as it's the ONLY thing I can find cheap for £1 each in poundland).

I'm pretty good at sewing and want to make a cage liner I saw on here, the trouble is that I can't find a really big piece of fleece cheaply. I think a member called 4piggiepigs said she got hers for £2! the piece was massive (in her instructions for the liner).

I live in Cardiff and at a loss in finding any fleece that's big enough for a 2x3 home. Anyone know of cheap online or local fleece?

Thanks : ) :x

P&P is high on Ikea online fabric :x. How much are you looking for (just seen the cage size, dont forget it your making one with sides you will need alot more than 3x2) and what are you after? plain or patterned? Patterned can be expensize ive paid £10 a M before now :o.

Hopefully between £2-£7? Patterned preferably, I can make one patterned and one plain.
I have an Ikea by me but they only have medium sized plain ones last time I checked online.
:p

I'm new to the idea of fleece bedding, is there a particular kind of fleece?

If throws & balnkets work my kids have fleece blankets form Tesco which are about 1.m down each side ad were 2 for £5 when I got them.

ASDA also often have fleece throws on offer about the same price.

Acrylic or polyester bedthrows from places like primark or supermarkets are just fine.

Correct me if I sound really stupid haha but I thought it's fleece only as the urine wickes through? Or is the stuff you're talking about fleece but different kinds? XD Oh god I'm going to sound stupid!

Fleece is a much easier way for me personally to manage the smell, cleanliness and costings. I'm just trying to take it a step further by making a cage liner with a cotton mattress topper and fleece so it stays in place.

Bedding is a lot more expensive, well for me it was with my guinea pig years ago, it's also messier and smellier even if you clean it twice a week!

There's loads of youtube videos about fleece bedding.

Dunelm mill have some pet fleece. 200x140cm I think. 50% off at the moment so only 2.99 each. £3.95p&p too.

B&M (bargain madness) do a pair of plain fleeces throws for £3.99 - sorry i cannot remember the size but they are pretty big. they come in 2 shades of green, 2 shades of blue, 2 shades of lilac etc. i've used them when making my snuggle sacs and cuddle cups

If your buying off the roll sizes tend to be 1m X 1M 20 or 1M 50. blankets tend to be 120cmX90cm ish but you can get bigger shop around :).

Do they have patterned ones? I found one website that sells this cute duck one at £4.99 per meter. 150cm in width.

To make a cage liner with 5" high sides I'd need bigger than 150cm by 100cm wouldn't I? My math isn't great. My cage is 28"x42"

xx

If your doing it as all in one sheet with the inner in the middle you need 40"x54" leaving 2" for hemming.

If your doing a flat top and looped sides you need 30"X44" (ive added 2" for the seams so adjust as you need) 148"x12" for the sides.
I will double check this because OH has been talking in my ear :S.

Edit 140" X 12" for the sides (when looped) rolleyes. as you want it to be tight not baggy so no need to allow extra for the seams.

I'm on the isle of wight and our poundl and/pound stretcher/matalan dont sell fleece at all. cheapest i have found is ebay £6.99 a meter but thats with out p&p :(

http://fabricland.co.uk/ - scroll down and click on polar fleece, its about £3.99 pm (147cm wide) but they do discount if you buy a roll (may be worth doing if you have bigger cages)
