Hi everyone I am requiring peoples help please, iv had two male guinea pigs for over a year now and we are sick of the sawdust getting everywhere plus one of the guinea pigs insists of flicking the stuff out of the cage and en it just ends up everywhere in the house no matter how much I vac up 😩 ( kids don’t help with this lol) I am just wondering if people could help me with making and explaining these fleece liners I have seen people making and selling, and what I need to make one. I have a sewing machine so that’s a start but I need help of where to buy a liner and what one is ( I heard people using mattress protectors) do you use the waterproof mattress protectors or jus the mattress protector toppers and for the fleece could I just use one of the fleece blankets that you can buy from primark for £4? All suggestions much appreciated 👍🏻

Hi.. I make my own fleece liners.. I buy fleece blankets from Primark, asda, b&M etc. For the middle absorbant layer I have used microfiber cloths (mainly for small liners) I also use incontinence pads for beds- search online..altho pricey last for ages ! I use a layer of fleece, then the absorbent layer then another layer of fleece.. happy to help You further x not used mattress protectors yet but they are good. 20180927_140436.webp

Thankyou for year quick reply, I have a look at these incontinance pad online now, iv jus brought a horse wash bag already on amazon tonight to get ready for washing the liners and fleeces lol

I too use inco bed pads with fleece on top. I also make my own beds and pee pads using two layers of fleece and some wadding in between. I have a couple of waterproof ones but I find they get wet and smelly very quickly whereas the ones I make the pee just goes through and wicks to the inco pad. These get changed every other day and washed in the horse wash bag to keep the washer free of hay/hair etc. You can find tutorials on YouTube to make pads and beds. Don’t forget to prepare your fleece by washing (without softener) and drying a few times til liquid drains straight through when dry. This can take up to three or four washes but they do dry very quickly.

yes a horse wash bag is a must! i used to wash at home but found that my washer didnt like it... it all got too heavy when wet and would take ages to spin then come out even wetter! I now go to the local launderette - all in horse wash bag and just don't shout about the fact it is animal bedding - altho the woman who works there knows me now and she said its fine! at least in the horse wash bag nothing comes out!
