So my mum has given me an old mattress protector (that is what you use right?) and I don't really need it so I thought I would buy a nice bit of fleece and try making my own cage liner. Will see how that goes lol
But what is it you put underneath the liner? Do you still need to put newspaper and towels down? Or do you just need newspaper or something...Oh and how do you like to clean the fleece and stuff. Daily and for the wash. Just so I know which works best :)
Thanks :D

Firstly, the matress protector will only be usefull if its 100% cotton topped (it should tell you if you can find the label)

Then, my method (which is all i can really comment on) Is to put down a dry nights bed pad, then pop the cage liner on top. This works very well for me as it limits smell. But in theory, you could use a towel, or newspaper.

What i would say, is if you are thinking of getting McMac a friend, you would then (before getting the friend) maybe think about changing the cage arangement, if you can see that happening, it might be best not to sew the two together, as it works just as well if you simply lay the fleece over the top. :)

I personally poo pick every night before bed, and i wash the cage liner every 5 days, when i had a smaller cage, that was more often. I also brush it with a fairly stiff brush before i goes in the machine :)

If he has a certain place he likes to hide, and spend alot of time (mine like under the hamock) Then i either move this frequently, or pop a little pad thats a piece of matress protector topped with fleece over this area, then change that more often :)

I hope that has helped

Thankyou :) yeah I will see if the mattress protector is 100% cotton. I have been thinking about getting him a friend but I am unsure just yet

If your still deciding, it might be best to not sew it all together (untill youve decided) As it will save money :)

If its a double matress protector, then you might well get two cage liner out of it, meaning you would never need to use any other bedding :) Saving loadsa moneys!

Oh yes good point it is a double. When one is in the wash just use the other :) Finally no more horrible messy shavings. I am sick and tired of using it lol.
Also where do you get your fleece? I had a look on Ebay and they are all really small sizes. I know there is a lady who sells fabric at my local market but no idea how much she does it for, will have to ask and see

A few places
Ikea (cheap)
Primark (cheap)
Dunelm
Tescos/any other supermarket with a fabric department)
B&M bargains
Home bargains
Pound stretcher

Ive probably missed some off there! :) lol
