Hi guys,
I have three guinea pigs, two of them are 1 year old and the other one is supposedly 2 yrs old. I got coco my two year old pig around 3 months ago and their cage stinks even before the cleaning date once a week. it isn’t SUPER stinky but it is stinky. Right now I have a 2x6 C and C grid cage and I use ultra dust extracted soft wood shaving bedding. Should I use a different bedding? I used to use vetbed but it was hard to clean and the pee smell stayed in the vetbed even tho we cleaned it 1-2 times per week. And the small bits of hay and some poops would get tangled in the vetbed. Should I clean the cage more often?

Do you change out the wet patches and poo pick regularly? That’s the only thing I can think of. I’d change maybe half of it mid week and the rest end of the week. But it shouldn’t really smell that much. Also take out the hay as they do wee and poo in it.

Actually, is the hay just piled in or is it in a hay tray or similar?

I do spot clean the cage once every two days. Their hay is in a large hay rack.

Perhaps try spot cleaning more often. I spot clean up to four times a day. I do it routinely twice a day, morning and night, and then pick up anything else another few times when I’m with them.
