Ok so I have six lovely piggys :)
In different cages at the mo but I have ordered two skyline maxi cages and the idea was to join them together by placing them side by side and removing the smaller sides that would be in the middle so it's a long cage. (using ramps/bridges ect to get from one side to the other?. I'm guessing 4 would be ok in this set up but not six.

Then I had an idea, drool If I place the cages with the front doors facing eaach other and open out each of the front sections and attatch them to the opposite cages, then place a flat board that rests on the edge of each tray so that I end up with a total space thats 120cm x 240cm. Again either using ramps, some sort of step ect.
I think that setup would be ok for 6 but obviously my 4 group and pair need to get on so it does depend on that as well.
What do people think?

draw a little plan of both ideas so i can get a better idea lol I'm confused

I thought it may have been a bit confusing lol, will have a go on paint later to try and draw a pic :)

Ive got 2 x 140 cages joined together using ramps - total size is 9.1ft x 2.2ft (or there about) - if you joined two cages together (side by side) to make one long cage you would have a cage size of 238 x 59 cm (7.8ft x 1.9ft) = 14.82 Sq.Ft.

Joining two cages together with the front doors facing one another would give you a cage size of 119cm x 118 (4ft x 3.8ft) = 15.2 Sq.Ft

Either design could be done very easily - just depends on the temperament of your girls as to whether it will be big enough ;)

Well the idea is I make up the cage and then hopefully under supervision put them all together, so that the new cage has no smells of any pig. Most of the girls are easy going it's just the dominant one from each group I have to watch and I know
which ones they are! :-)
I'm starting work in a mo so will try and post a pic later of the plans

Just a thought, but if you have the space, why not try the cheaper option of making a c&c cage? That way you can have multi levels and go up as well as out!

Tbh, i've tried c and c, just really didn't get on with it, the fleece took so much washing and didn't do my machine any favours. :Then when I used megazorb it got everywhere and the piggys chewed the coroplast to bits, even outside the cage! with this design it'll either be just megazorb or a combination of both.

i would get a c&c if i could find the stuff to make one i would but in australia its so hard so i am stuck with my cage [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ih_EucG1YlM&feature=channel_video_title"]guinea pig cage tour (new) - YouTube[/ame] heh i want a c&c wah

You have a perfect set up, your piggies are very lucky :(|)

Not as perfect as your set up - you know I'm very jealous ;) god i wish i had a dedicated piggy room :)) You and your partner are a very bad influence giving me building instructions to extend my piggy family :p

...as if we'd do that :x :(|)
Are you thinking of going up another level ;)

I love these Skyline maxi cages and think your ideas are very good. Just thought that the front door facing set up might be more difficult to clean out etc,and would personally prefer the end to end join. Good luck with whatever you decide.

As you've experienced yourself this bonding lark is very stressful, if i had the nerves id certainly extend both cage and piggy family, for the moment though Wexford and his girlfriends are giving me enough grief mallethead

I agree - the side by side set up will be much easier for cleaning purposes :)

yeah, got to be easier to clean that way.
The cages arrived today and I've made a start :))
I've popped them in position(shorter side by side) removed the sides in the middle and then I cable tied them inside the cages to create a kind of ledge at either end.
The thinking is one end is a kind of cozy ledge with fleece and or a cat bed to lounge in and the other a hay loft or feeding area. which leaves all of the bottom for play/exercise and the odd snooze! :)
Still a work in progress but I'm getting there, just need to sort out ramps/ledge coverings and just how many piggys will comfortably fit inside, depending on setup..

It's finished :) only one piggy venturing the ramp the boss petal lol
i'm sure the others will follow soon, the food bowl has been tipped over already so I will need a ceramic one really, now finishing off cleaning the old cage ready for ebay, unless anyone is after a corner cage, 2 tier? :)
