we have just this morning discoverd 5 little surprise babies in our cage so have had to seperate dad from mum and the babies.

We have just bought a new hutch for mum and pups and sice joining this forum i have seen various ways of setting up hutches and was thinking about changing the way we do ours.

We use sawdust on the bottom and thats it really, no lining underneath which makes it hard to clean and a bit of a pain.

They have a log cabin which is full of bedding which they sleep in then a hay rack for eating plus food etc

Is there a cleaner and easier way to set up a hutch?

Iv seen a few pics on here of just newspaper lining then hay and a few with fleece...

Tips would be great :)

Hi, I'm a newbie too so I'm sure someone will come along to give you even better advice but I started by using newspaper under the shavings to make it easier to clean, then I read a thread about using disposable bed mats (the kind that children use for bed wetting) and I have started using them. They are brilliant because they wick away the wee really well. ☺

You can lino tiles to stick on the bottom of the hutch to make it easier to clean and keeps the wood from getting wet :)

Hi and :wel:!
Newspaper and bed mats are good but can be quite costly and get wet very quickly.

Newspaper is free, but it does need changing more often. But I used this method for years! I now use bed pads under vetbed, I love it!
