We have a lovely boar called Sparky who we got as a baby in May along with another boar. Unfortunately we only have Sparky now and we need to get an indoor cage for him as it's definitely getting loads colder up here now (Scotland). In fact we have the outdoor hutch in the dining room because of the high winds just now ;-)

My dilemma is that I haven't a clue how big a cage I should get. Obviously we want him to have space (he will get to run around outside of the cage indoors once we figure out a run for him) but some of the cages are huge! I was looking at the Skyline Maxi XXL until I actually got the tape measure out and saw how big it was lol.

Now I've looked at so many cages I'm completely confused.

Can anyone offer me any advice on what size would be okay for one boar and that doesn't cost a fortune - I am most definitely on a budget :(

:)

bigger is always better. is he going to be a lone boar or will you be finding him a friend?

for one piggies you need 36inches by 24 inches minimum.

for 2 48 inches by 24 inches.

C&C cages are the best as you can alter them to fit spaces you have :)

Thank you lauralucy :) I have a better idea of what to get now.

I don't know whether to get another boar for Sparky - I'm not quite sure whether to do that in case they don't get on. I'll have to take advice!

:):)

:)

Best thing to do, is take him "boar dating" Lots of rescues offer this, and this means your boar will get to pick his own boar friend, so they will get on :)

Great advice already given. Let him pick his own friend and give them as much space as you can. C&C are great because you can add extra space by adding an extra floor as well. A 4 x 2 C&C would be the minimum for 2 boys.

It does get chilly up here doesn't it? Especially if last winter was anything to go by!

A boar friend would deffo be a good idea...I have successfully bonded a few duos of boars with no problems but "boar dating" is a better idea.

I am unsure if the SSPCA in Edinburgh would offer this but there is also a rescue called Paws Here which may be able to help you with this :)
