My three 5 month old boars have been particularly smelly this last week or so; they've had a lot of grass and also seem to be going through a bit of an hierarchy reshuffle so I'm blaming that. What's the thoughts on cage fresh granules? I only heard about them this morning when I was looking at threads about smelly boars and wondered if they are ok to use or if they upset the piggies or cause behaviours? I'd live with the smell rather than upset my boys.

I used to use it u set newspaper and shavings and it was very effective but it put me off using it when it made my dwarf indoor bunny sneeze uncontrollably when I used it for him. I don't think anything perfumed is going to be good for them. I just have deep shavings that I change twice a week and it's nice and fresh. regular cleaning is the best method.

Thanks @Redribbon . I cleaned them out yesterday morning and it was already quite potent by the afternoon. If the granules aren't good news I'll just need to use more pads in the most used wee areas.

I used to use the cage fresh granules and I found it useless. Didn't make a difference whatsoever and it was quite expensive for what is was. I'd just stick to good quality bedding or fleece.

What I noticed is that boars will mark everything after you've completely cleaned everything. Try leave some of their fleece stuff in there so it has their scent. They will not mark as much. You can remove that item and wash it the next day.

Thanks Lissie. I usually leave one or two of their hideys in, but I'll make a point of making sure I do...it might help. Cheers

I have used these previously ,they are a waste of money ! maybe change the bedding more frequently or use a different type of bedding ,if that is an option.Good luck trying to find a solution that works for you .in my experience with my boars ive found aubiose to be the best bedding that contains smells and moisture, but it really is down to personal preference.:)
