I've just had a request for four piggies living together who want to stay over the summer. I have an R6A (152 x 75cm) and a 6x2ft hutch, but both seem the 'right' size for two piggies, and I can well imagine four being absolutely crushed. I also have my bunny accommodation (insulated shed) which is 15ft2 per pen.

Am I right in thinking that this is on the small side?

I have looked into C&C cages, but have only found http://www.guineapigcagesstore.com so far, and I'm in the UK. I'd prefer to go with something (for want of a better word) manufactured, as they tend to be easier to sell on (and we're moving shortly - at which point, I get a new boarding pets room, and so custom cages to fit it - so excited!), but the R6A seems to be the largest I can find so far.

My other thought was a puppy play pen (specifically, this one: http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=622&pf_id=1766), which I've been eyeing up as night-time house rabbit accommodation in the future for about 6 months :) Reckons it encloses 60 square feet (which seems huge!), and I can pop it on fleece (for wee-soak-up!) similar to my own hedgehog's pen (a converted rabbit run!).

Any advice would be very gratefully appreciated. Most books and webpages don't really prepare a person to be tackling four bundles of cavy-joy at once :)

Hi!

2x6ft is the minimum RSPCA recommendation for four piggies. It is great that you are thinking of more!

A puppy play pen is probably not a bad idea, you just have to cost it out.

The C&C link is for somebody selling cages in the UK. This link here will take you there: www.buycandc.co.uk

Otherwise, you can look for grids on ebay or amazon (metal cube storage).

I would strongly recommend to use either a cheap lino offcut or correx as underlay for any bedding you are using.

I myself am using lino, towels or mattress protectors for the sleeping areas, with a top layer of fleece for my own C&C pens.
