Okays, We will be getting 2 friends for Cookie Crumble over the next month.

Cookie and Treacy lived in a ferplast 120 which was fine for the 2 of them and they got lots of floor time. I know the ferplast 120cm is not good enough for 3 so am looking at at 140cm or 160cm the 160cm cage is http://www.rabbithutchesworld.co.uk/p/Liberta_Extra_Large_Rabbit_Retreat_-_Cage_and_Stand.htm has anyone any experience of this?

I am also thinking of C&C but Rach is less keen as she says in the event of a fire we couldnt get them out quick enough, were as we could drag the cage... I will work on this obstacle as I think a C&C will give more width. I would have to buy one of the pre-made kits as I am awful at any kind of DIY, I am a poor excuse of a man :)) A few weeks ago I tried changing a spotlight and pulled the whole thing from the ceiling to give you some idea of my crazy skillz.... I then had to ring an electrican to come round and put it back in, I haven't told my Dad or bro about this as they would mock me (rightfully so) forever....

The pre made kit webistes I have found are:

http://correxcages.weebly.com/ which I think kimlou5288 runs

http://www.candccages.co.uk/

Does anyone know of any other suppliers? Should I be looking at a 5x2 or 6x2 or 7x2? Not going for lofts and I'll never have more than 3 girls in it.

A 2x4 C&C cage is actually pretty much the same (or actually even slightly larger) floor space as a 2x5 ft traditional cage (about 1 sq metre). If you do not have big pets and small children, personally, I would recommend a C&C cage as you use the whole area to the full. If you make 2x5 14 in grid cage, then that roughly corresponds to a 2x6 ft traditional cage.

Perhaps you can construct a good sized communal den area with a bottom and a lid, and finger holes in the sides or top, which will easily lift out for a clean and in case of an emergency? Piggies tend to make a dash for the safest place when in danger.

When buying a traditional cage, it is good to remember that the bottom where they live is usually slanted inwards, so the actual floor space is quite a bit smaller than advertised.

We have had C&C for quite a few months now and love it! Its so much cheaper then a traditional cage, easier to clean and easier to get hold of the piggies as you haven't got a restricted opening at the top. They are very versatile aswell. But Rach has set my mind racing now about what we would do if there was a fire.....

Don't you start :)) You'd just grab them i have a box next to cage so they'd go in there... Survival instinct would take over and you'd catch them easily i think...

Now....

Cage liners any idea where from? I can't sow my socks let alone darn a fleece cage liner...

Oh dear! If I can build a c & c, I'm sure you can! :)) I'll come and do it, any excuse! ;)
Anyway, I have just had a cage liner from kim, i had mine made with sides so it has 'flaps' that go over the sides cos fuzzy and tyler are crazy chewers and ruined the first lot of correx.
Might be something to thing about, the correx may suddenly appeal. Kims stuff is well made and I have had two lots of correx, always comes when she says it will and its pre-scored so you just fold the sides up into place, I have used mini bull dog clips to hold the ends in place (was worried about glue fumes).
I had my grids from ebay, they're actually a bit larger than the norm but if you can get hold of a complete kit from kim or something its easier. I line the base with newspaper, then a couple of old towels before my fleece/liner. I had a set of towels which were crappy hence the idea to change to fleece, i thought well these arent getting used so they're relegated to piggie use only. If you dont have have any spares you can surrender then asda smart price is your friend ;)

Thanks Bev, your welcome anytime but I will conduct a pocket search on the way out :)) I know you are on the pignapping register lol

We are definitely going C&C looking at a 6x2 as we have the space, goin to get one this week as hopefully getting some friends for Miss Crumble very soon! There will then be a spare cage.... Which we may use for fostering or donate to a rescue.

I have 3 piggies in a 5 x 2 grid cage and they seem happy in it. I also have 2 piggies in a 6 x 2 grid cage - this gives loads of room but if you have a lid for it you may need some support (e.g. a bit of wood across from front to back mid way) in the middle to stop it sagging - I used to have this but no longer have a lid so its not needed. The C&C gives lots of options and I keep carriers handy in case of fire - something that has worried me too LOL.

Looking forward to the pigtures when you get it all set up :)

xx

Moi?! :o would i ever?!

Do you think she may have friends by the next time i see you? ;)

Hey,
I also have the irrational fear of fire, I worry a lot about what would happen. Although one argument is a wooden made cage wood burn more easily. Maybe we should all get emergency exit tunnels built into out homes ha!
