Hello all

As you all know I have my two sows in a 5x2 C&C cage. Snowy will be introduced beginning of February 2017 after is 6 week post neuter op. That would mean having 3 piggies in the cage.

I want to expand the cage to 8x2 to give them more room (and be able to give more toys).I have emailed the C&C cage company if they do correx bases at that size.

If they do not, any suggestions what I could do? Tape two pieces of correx together?

Since Snowy's current cage will be used for a hospital cage and will be stored flatpacked in the attic, I will have the room to expand the main cage. I will also order additional grids in case there are fights so I will be able to separate.

Your new cage plans sound fabulous - what a lucky little herd you have.

I asked C&C cages about correx sizes and they said they didn't go above 6 x 2, but maybe they will if it is being shipped within the UK?
So we have a join in our correx and it is held together with a few strips of heavy duty duct tape.
I also put the join in the middle of the cage where they were unlikely to pee (I was worried about pee soaking through the liner and getting under the tape!).
It has worked absolutely fine - no problems at all, so if you can't find one large, continuous sheet, then joining two together is also possible.

Sounds like they will have a piggie palace! I also taped 2 pieces of correx together, with join overlapping by about 5cm, taped on top and underneath. It has been fine - had them in it nearly a year with no problems.

I have used duct tape to tape correx together and it has worked well. Sounds like they are going to have a pad! My 3 girls are in a 2x5 and when I get my new girl in the new year it will be a 2x7, I wish I could give them a little more but that's as far as I can expand.

Thank you for your answers.

I use a transparent, heavy duty Duck Tape, which is waterproof. I bought it a year ago, and as I recall it was expensive. I have some on my current Correx base, holding the 'flaps' together, and also along the mark where it was bent for packaging.

As long as you have all used Correx that has been taped together with no issues, that it what I will do. I have emailed the company, so now I will wait to see what they say and suggest.

I can only expand after Snowy had joined the group because his current cage is in the space needed. It will be easier with just one cage for the piggies, and I have been looking for an excuse to purchase more fleece in the new year :)

what would be easier for the piggies? Leave the cage as it is until bonding has settled down and the heirarchy is stable and then expand it?

Or expand the cage whilst they are still in the bonding pen so that when they are put back in they have far more room?

I use duct tape a lot for pet related things, but for internal-type things I prefer Gorilla tape. If you have a special duct tape already though I'd probably try that and see how it goes before investing in further tape.

I would expand the cage while they are in the bonding pen, so they all go back in the 'new' cage together.
Less likely for anyone to feel territorial over things that way.

The C&C cage company has got back in touch.

I will have to tape two pieces of Correx together, so a 4x2 piece would cost £24, 8 grids £20 and P&P 14.99

Total = £58.99

Not as cheap as I thought.

The 2x3 cage is £49.99 but that's not including P&P

Sigh. It will be wirth it in the end though.
