Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has any comments on the Rabbit 140 versus the Essegi Baffy triple story cages? I hadnt even heard of the Essegi make until I stumbled across it last night, it looks awesomely large but quite a pain to clean compared with lifting one lid and cleaning one tray, what do you all reckon?

I have four guinea pigs and wondering if they could live together in either of the above? I currently have a Nero 3 and 4.

Thanks so much for any advice you can offer!

Now I just have to work out how to upload an avatar :-)

Cheers
Alex

I have heard people talk about it, You may find the ramps maybe a bit steep?! Maybe someone that has one can tell us more about it!

Yes, even though they do use a ramp in their outdoor summer quarters, I feel like it's better if they are on one level really so not sure what they'd think of ramps. But then the floorspace is quite a bit larger.

Am now thinking of the Rabbit 140 with a mezzanine!

Any more comments welcome, come on all you Rabbit 140 and Essegi cage owners :-)

The Ferplast 140 provides only 10 square feet of space, so it's too small for 4 guinea-pigs. You could fit two in there. Here's the link to guinea-pigs cages which gives you a good idea of the size cage you'll need for 4 guinea-pigs (greater than 13 square feet):

The bigger the space, the less frequently you'll have to clean them out. The other consideration to take into account is whether you have boars or sows; boars require more space to prevent them from fighting. I currently have the minimum space for 6 guinea-pigs and I spend way too much time cleaning them out (that's with them being in a run all day, so if yours aren't in a run, expect to have to clean them out every few days (that's with 13 square feet)).

Thanks for the reply Furrie. I currently clean them out at least once a week, they are all sows.

I'd really prefer to house them together if possible.

I wonder if Ferplast would consider making a Rabbit 180 cage!

Yes I saw those, they look amazing, but I have four cats and daren't risk it (I know you can make lids but I wouldn't trust my handiwork to be catproof).

I wonder if anyone has ever tried joining two e.g. Rabbit 100s side by side with a tube or something?

That would work - I have seen the tube thing.

I have cats - 3 of them and it's really very easy to put a lid on a c&c. I have a 3 storey 2 x 4 cage with a lid and have never had any problems at all.

Maybe you could just ziptie them together "face to face" with the front opening flaps removed? It would be as cat proof as the cage is normally and you could just lift off the whole double wire unit for cleaning.

You can also take the side panels out of normal cages and join them together or cut holes and connect via a tube (builders supplies).

I have done the first, but my hubby built me two platforms (where they could sleep, which helped with connecting the cages.

Ah, good point re ramps taking up space actually. I also worried they'd get dirty and be a pain to take out and clean but one review said they keep falling off.
