Hello all,

So I've found this hoover online that looks great for cleaning the pigs out. Anyone got any experience? Or do you think this is overkill? It is expensive...

BLACK+DECKER 18 V Lithium-Ion Flexi Vacuum [Energy Class A]

I bought one from Aldi for like 15 quid and its been brilliant for cleaning the piggie poop. Try not to hoover hay up as it clogs really quickly if you do. But they save so much time. The only downside is obviously it sucks air in whil picking up the poo, and blows the air out of the back which end sup smelling quite a bit, but that is the only downside otherwise saves so much time

Is it a conventional shaped one? Would you say there's not really a need for the big fancy black+decker ones?

I got a £12 wet and dry one from Lidl although i've never used it wet. I thought it had died a few weeks ago but it had been left off charge.. I wouldn't be without one. It's so fast for picking up the poops. Much easier, I found, than sweeping them all. I agree about the hay, if it sucks up t much it clogs but it's easy to empty and carry on. It can smell a bit but I wash mine inc the filter every week and then it's lovely and fresh again :D

The one i got after a good charge lasts for absolutely ages. I haven't cleaned inside it though as i just haven't thought to but i can do that this weekend.

I use a hand held rechargeable vacuum, got it from Wilkinson I think. When I go in the cage area to vac I shooo the boys out because of the noise I don't want them to feel trapped. But they like to come back over to check what I'm doing and move anything if they are unhappy with my placement of it lol. But back to the point the little vacuum is great I just empty everyday and wash filter weekly.:)

I'd left it off charge all night. I was gutted when i thought it had died.

Mine comes part into 4 pieces. The main handle with the motor and all the electrics which obviously I don't wash! Then the main front bit and inside is the filter and the case for the filter. I wash the filter by hand then in the washing machine and the other bits just by hand :)

My lot are so used to it now that they come over to it and chase it and sniff it and start pocorning and being silly around it. They seem to enjoy playing with it while I clean!

I think I'll have a look for a cheaper one then! :) any brands to go for? Or to avoid?

Fantastic, I was so worried mine would be scared, but couldn't believe they came to have a look lol, I think they can all be braver the expected, I have a brilliant picture in my head of a group of pigs dancing round the hoover (it been a long week:crazy:)

Mine popcorn when I Hoover their cage , go figure ....
Maybe they like the thought that they are giving you something useful to do - clean up their mess just so they can make it messy again for to clean up again cos obviously you have nothing better to do!

@CriLondon How's the new floor doing? Hope you haven't been up all night again!

Yep , I think that's what it is...." Oi Dexter , here he goes again cleaning up , prepare your belly!"
The floor is fine thank you , piggies a bit less , a lot of fighting going on although none of it too excessive ....worrying times...

Oh dear CriLondon I hope they don't fall out completely then it'll have to be Plan B.

I use a wet and dry one I got for about £15. It's been great. The pigs were scared of it at first. I use it just before feeding time and now they get all excited because they know food is coming. They chase the hoover round now, which can make cleaning take a bit longer lol.
The mistake I made is not emptying it after EVERY use. Damp piggy poo goes mouldy quickly, and the smell makes me gag :vom:

I have one i bought for like $40 dollars. I used it twice lol I find it easier to just put some gloves on and pick everything up. My piggies go crazy jumping everywhere every time they hear the vacuum even if they are in another room and hear it when we turn it on!

I've got a VAX one but it has such a small collection box on it it needs emptying 3 or 4 times on each cage. It's quicker for me to poop pick by hand into a bucket and tip it in the compost bin or onto the garden.

Just found this thread as I was searching for hoovers. I have a handheld one for poop picking but the pigs are terrified of the noise. How can I get them used to it? I don't want to constantly be scaring them but even taking them out the cage at the time they still seem scared of the noise. Or do I just carry on amd bribe them with food after so they learn to associate the noise with yummy things?

I clean mine just before feeding time. They were scared at first, but after a couple of weeks learned that the noise meant food is coming! Luna still runs away but Ginny now follows the hoover round the cage lol

I hoover every day with my 20 quid hoover. Mistletoe and Jingle were extremelynunimpressed but it made Caramel popcorn!

They pretty much ignore it now after a couple of weeks.

I used the 'poo'ver again today and they were actually ok with it. So will continue as so much quicker than dustpan and brush.

i use a black and decker 4.5 volts wet and dry,i have to empty the chamber a couple of times.i found any handheld hoover with a voltage higher than 7 watts tends to suck up the fleece/liner.
