Adult Guinea Pig
Hi all,
As mentioned before, I currently have 2 boars living separately as a result of a failed bonding and a nasty fight with bloodshed They are in separate cages placed next to eachother, so they're living as neighbours with metal bars inbetween. I don't plan on keeping them each on their own permanently but this is the arrangement for now.
The younger boar, Buddy aka Little Bud, (about 4 months old) often goes up to the adjoining cage bars, where the 2 pigs can see eachother, and goes a bit mad, biting the cage bars and chattering his teeth etc. Yossi, the older boar (3yrs) is relaxed enough to not really care about having his neighbour there unless Little Bud starts this noisy routine, and then Yossi will join in.
I imagine this is completely normal behaviour and to be expected (as they presumably hate eachother now!) but I was wondering if this would now continue forever or will these displays of aggression/frustration/dominance (or whatever they are!) eventually simmer down and occur less and less frequently or even stop?
I'm hoping that the 2 boars will get used to living as neighbours and just put up with it but don't know if this is unrealistic. If needs be then I can keep their cages on top of eachother, so they're still near eachother but can't actually see eachother. I'm constantly worried about snapped teeth with all the bar biting and would prefer them to not get so stressed as Yossi is usually incredibly chilled and never starts this aggro!
Many thanks x
