Here where I live (denmark) almost everyone uses the mainstream cage "bedding" translated to cutter shavings (however these translation sites might do it wrong) however I see on this forum you seem to be using mostly fleece and then a toilet for them. Is this a better thing to do? How do you clean it? How many layers of this fleece do you need (as well as in the cage and for changing them when getting dirty? How often do you clean it? Is it more hygienic than the cutter shavings?

Many thanks for help!

I think the correct translation is wood shavings, this is what we call this type of bedding in English.
Wood shavings can cause respitory problems. Its also quite messy hence why fleece came about.
Fleece is really easy to use, you only need a couple of layers and and something to absorb the urine underneath the fleece. The fleece doesnt soak up urine but acts as a material to wick the urine away to an underneath material. This way the and piggies have a nice dry comfy bedding.
Hope this helps. Ikea sells fleece blankets really cheeply.

Hello :)p My OH is from Denmark, British born and moved back to the UK seven years ago - beautiful country, he lived in Aarlborg :))
We have 15 piggies and use vet bed, can be put in their pens and stays really nice for around 5-6 days as the wick draws the wee away. Easy to wash and dry too, keeps the piggies warm and little feet nice.
We use a plastic vegetable rack lined with newspaper then loaded with handfuls of hay and a litter tray, again lined with paper as a toilet and change at least twice a day. This helps to keep the hay fresh and free from wee and poop.
If you work out where your piggies wee the most, pop something a little more robust in for them to keep their bedding nice :))
