I'm hoping someone can offer me some advice on bedding for my two boys who seem to wee all the time :red

At the moment they are in a Liberta 150 cage on newspaper, puppy pads and hay. I top up the hay daily and change the whole lot every other day. Even by then the puppy pads are soaking and I dont like the idea of them sitting on anything damp. They did well on shavings but I dont really want to use them anymore. I tried fleece but I needed to change it daily. Anyway I was thinking of changing the cage set up and trying vetbed.

I've already got a Ferplast 100 which is what the boys were in when I got them rolleyes. I am thinking of getting a 120 and joining them together in an L shape so it will fit in the alcove in my lounge. I was thinking maybe vet bed in one and carry on with hay in the other one.

What do you think ?/

I find that bed pads (I've been using huggies dry nights, but about to try asda ones as they're a bit cheaper) are much "longer lasting" than puppy pads. I find them more absorbant, and more moisture retaining.

I can't really comment on the vetbed as I have never used it for my girls, I tried fleece and it wasn't convenient for me so the girls are back on shavings and hay as we have never had any problems with it.
I can however comment on the joining two Ferplasts in a L shape, we brought out four girls in for the winter and the only way we could do it was to join two ferplast 120s together, as indoor cages suitable for 4 pigs are non-existent.

This is how we have the cages now, apart from we have shavings in both sides.

I think it should work in a similar way with the Ferplast 100, it may even join without any gaps :)

How much are these Amanda?

Love the look of your cage Klee, how do they get on with the little bridge? I was thinking of getting the stands as well so I can store their stuff underneath

Well the little bridge works brilliantly for 3/4 girls Rosie still hasn't figured it out properly, the other 3 just leap over the side now. Rosie is old, with poor sight so I'm not sure how to get her to start using the bridge, she will go over if she is put on it put won't voluntarily go over. I'm hoping that with some banana and some hard work over the next week that I might be able to get her using it, herself. If not I may have to make a few adjustments. x

Edit: It did take the 3 girls a few days to get used to it but now they know what they are doing they fly over. I'm sure you wouldn't have any problems. Also the bridge is two large playstiks bridges joined together as one wasn't quite big enough.

Huggies Dry Nights in asda are £3.50 for 7 pads. I use 2 to a 140cm cage, but there's some overlap, so 2 to a 150 should be no problem.

The Asda ones (I'm yet to try them) are £3 for 10 - will be doing my cage clean out with these tonight.

I have 2 pigs in each 140 cage, and can easily go a week between cleans

I did a clean out using the asda bed pads today. I had to use 3 to a 140cm cage and there was a lot of overlap (aka wastage!). They don't appear to be the same level of quality, and I doubt they will be as absorbant/hold the moisture as well as the Huggies ones.
