Hi. My girls where in a cage with intergrated stand, even so the base of the cage was was low to the ground , and I found this difficult getting up and down all the time, so I started interacting with them through the top of the cage now I am starting to feel discomfort in my back, though never had a problem with my back, I have enquired about a c&c cage but I do not have the space, at this time they are in the.base of the cage which is 110 x 50 cm, and 7 Ins deep, I had the base on the floor for a whole day while I was able to watch them, and though they put front feet on side when I was feeding them, they have made no attempt to get out, and when some noise scared them they ran into one of there hide holes, I put them back in cage when not supervised. my questions are, could they phisicalley jump or clime out, as I would like at some point to put just the base on a table. (I would just like to add since this set up they have come on as I am Abel to interact with them more, and when I pass them they are a lot more inquisitive) is this a safe hight for them as I do not want them jumping out as I am planning to put the cage on a table, also any ideas on how to give them water, as I have lost count of the number of times I change it in a day, they seem to think its a toilet, lol thanks for any advice. One more thing If this height is not safe do you have any suggestions?

Sorry but the cage is too small for guinea pigs. The minimum it has to be is 120 by 60 cm. any smaller is just too small. I got rid of furniture to make my c and c cage. I have no TV now but it was worth it as my piggies have a nice 8 by 3 c and c cage.

Have you tried giving water bottles? Mine have two water bottles and a bowl of water next to their pellets.

I think it is possible that they could jump out of the cage if they were scared by something.

Before I made my c&c cage I had the 120x60 cage. The base is a similar depth and I used to open the doors and let my boy jump out to run around my room everyday. So they definitely can jump out, my pig did it with ease and he enjoyed floor time so much I'd have to hold him back when I was changing food or hay. He's jumped over much higher things as well when trying to reach another guinea pig and another boy I had would jump miraculous height to escape baths. Since guinea pigs can't sense the drop from the cage to the floor I'd say it is without a doubt too dangerous. c&c cages don't have to be massive, a simple 2x3 is perfect and I find that they are really handy for easy access.

People say different things, but I've always been told 2x3 is the minimum but 2x4 is the preferred size. I would think if the pigs get on well and get exercise everyday a 2x3 is fine but 2x4 would be better.

It shows 2x3 for 1 pig minimum, never mind 2 pigs in a 2x3. @Polish chicken said girls with a plural in their post, so I assumed they had two pigs.

The table shows 2x3 for 2 pigs minimum as well but 2x4 as preferred.
To be a good piggy owner and give them the best life possible, the rule of thumb is to give them a bigger cage rather than a smaller cage. I don't want to get into an argument.

Hi yes I have two girls, that I rescued but not from a shelter, they wear in a cage much smaller ( and I know this is not the point ) but they wear being cleaned out once a week, and apart for that and being fed had no attention, I have now but them on fleece which keeps them warm and dry,They have snuggle sacks which they love are exercised everyday and are held daily, I live with other people so getting rid of furniture is not an option, I have had them six weeks now, and I am fond of them, but would try and find them a better home if it's for there good!

Yes you are in a difficult situation as you live with other people. You have done a wonderful job rescuing these girls so feel proud of that.

Sadly not everyone has realised the greatness of guinea pigs and devoted their life to them! :tu: There's been many times when I have had disputes with family over animal related things, if I lived on my own I'd have a whole room for my little guys! So it's understandable that it's hard for you, you're only trying to do the best you can. I hope you find a way to solve your problem, maybe looking through the member's galleries in the housing and enrichment section will give you some ideas?

You can overlap c&c grids to make it bigger if you can't manage a 3x2 or have a 3x3.

Hi, that sounds good, I can only go up to 51/2ft length ways, to morrow going to see if I can find someone to make me something, I have spent so long trying to find something suitable, i will see tomorrow how long a c&c cage is as over lapping I will loose 4ins on width. I would love to see these two happy.
