Hi, I finally got around to altering my cage for front opening. The large cage I had my hamster in and now Pip is in it could only open at the top. This made it aukward to place items on the floor at the back. I know the floor is a drawer that can pull out but with substrate on it, you dont want to keep opening and closing the drawer. I screwed the drawer to the sides and back of the cage and put hinges on the top of the front panel and the roof. This allows a very large opening area for cleaning and for getting pip out.
Cage lokks normal as it is meant to be.
Cage fully open and full access is possible
The flush fit hinges fitted. Two on the lid / front will be enough. There is no weight to it.
There are a lot of people who like this cage and are thinking of buying it. It is well worth altering it to a front opening. I had to plane the sides down a bit so the front is slightly smaller than the gap so the front will still close all the way.
A very easy job for a diy minded person.
