Hello.
I recently discovered what C&C cages are and I currently have a pet shop cage. My two piggies are babies right now so I think it's okay for now but I'm worried about when they become bigger and the idea of a c&c cage really looks beneficial for my piggies. I'm just worried they'll either squeeze out the squares or if my dog would be able to get them.

Any advice? Thanks. Cazzie.

(Sorry if this is the wrong place ;_; I'm new)

Guinea pigs grow really fast. I got my pigs at 5 weeks old and they went straight into a 2x4 C&C cage. the space between the bars on my grids is 3cm. Honestly, for the first 3 or 4 days I thought the cage was way too big for them. About a week or two later I started feeling it's almost too small! They go nuts running zoomies all over and truly love the space.

3 months later and they are LOADS bigger! I can't believe how much they've grown in just 3 months, but there is certainly no ways they would fit through the bars.

Hi Cazzie! Anyway, I think once your little fur babies get bigger, you definitely need a c and c cage, especially for two piggies. I have one, and they're quite durable. I mean, obviously don't let your dog jump up and down on it, but they can hold a cat, or some books or whatever. Make sure the pigs aren't somewhere where the dog can go without you knowing, so probably a room with a door. My pig lives in the basement. My dog can't open the basement door, so that's good. If you're worried about the grid gaps, if they can go through, mesh two layers of grids, if you know what I mean? Like make the cage, then make an outer layer, but make it so the squares kinda cover the middle of eachother? I hope you will like this forum! It's really good. So, I hope you make them one!

Thanks for all your comments. My dog sleeps in my room but she hasn't been since I've brought home the piggies. I'm just worried about the cat coming in during the night. I'm thinking of making one with a stand so my dog can't jump up but I know I really want a c&c cage after seeing how rewarding they are. As well as fleece bedding. When I next get paid I think I'll start on one for sure.

When I was considering buying a c and c cage I was looking in loads of websites and a few websites said you can make a roof out of more grids which you can take off you may have to google it to see what I mean :)

My cage is up off floor on stand made out of grids and it has a lid made with c&c grids so my cats can not get in. I can post pics if you would like

Hi, mine is similar to cassybaby89's description. Here are some photos.

The top platform area has a permanent roof. The top platform is secured halfway up the bottom layer of grids with lots of cable ties and supported by the willow tunnel (now half eaten!) so they don't need a ramp, they just jump up.

I made a lid out of 2x3 grids which I secure with strong "crocodile" clips. The table was from a diy shop - i think designed for wallpapering. The roof takes the weight of a cat. We don't even have a cat but our neighbour's cat sneaks in all the time, so I had to make the cage safe!

The only thing with c&c is that a cat can put its paw through the squares and touch the piggies, and they don't seem to hear or see him coming at all. Not sure what you can do about that, apart from put extra mesh around the cage? The neighbour's cat never gets to stay long enough for it to be a big issue! As soon as I find him I chase the rascal out!

These are really cool cages. I just need to get the money together in order for me to start purchasing materials for this cage. I'm thinking of making a 2x4 cage with a stand. I'll probably need a roof but I'm kind of against it cuz I want them to be open, I like that appeal of a c&c cage but their safety comes first and I guess a roof is needed on the off chance a kitty cat wants a climb.

Just to add, the roof is fitted (i.e. It is lipped so it doesn't slip) and is in 4 foldable portions, so you don't have to take off the whole lot to access the cage. I chose it as I liked the idea of C&C but wasn't confident to take the plunge in terms of the DIY element. I'm lazy, basically :) It works for me (and my piggies :))!

Ah I see haha ^^ I'm not afraid of DIY as I'm an artist so I like the ideas of learning new things. I've also recently finished building a sensory garden for a Primary school so a c&c cage doesn't scare me when it comes to building, even if I'm a lazy person too.

That cage is pretty nice for the price too! My current cage is a pet shop one I got for £10 second hand which is about 1ft shorter than a 2x4 pretty much. So they're okay for the time being but they won't stay babies forever so I'll have to upgrade at some point to make sure they're as happy as they possibly can be ^_^

I made my cage out of c&c zip ties and connectors. I use underneath for storage. The lid is c&c zip ties together as one solid flat piece then zip tied to one side with room for it to move like a hinge. image.webp

Oh nice! I still love your little halloween setup. I was going to try give my guinea's pumpkin to see if they like it but my pumpkin had dried out so didn't want to give it to them, but they had Cucumber for the first time ever instead.

I think I'll just have to buy some grids and get to work really, I'll probably buy quite a lot to make it high with a lid and stuff ~ bit of trial and error ^_^ Thanks for everyone's help. Um, does anyone know where I can question about fleece bedding or a link to a current forum. I want that too but have no clue how it's meant to work really. Cheers! Cazzie.
