Can guinea pigs eat cabbage?
I would just feed it as an occasional food.

Yes, they can eat cabbage (ie it wouldn't kill them)
But only half a leaf per piggy -weekly.

Here is a link to a website particularly about feeding guinea pigs cabbage.
Hope this helps! 👍

What is bloat in guinea pigs?

Wiebke has a fantastic section under the "Health and Illness" area in the forum. When you click on that, there is "Wiebke's Home Care Support Guides" listed. There is a fantastic write up that I will link below about bloat. Bloat, from what I understand, is very deadly if not treated properly. Also, if you see a member with a "Health and Illness" or "Pregnancy" listed in the bottom of their post, they are listed as forum expert.

Digestive Disorders: Diarrhea - Bloat - GI Stasis (No Gut Movement) And Not Eating

Yikes! I have plenty of veggies to feed them so I'll just stay away from cabbage. Not worth the risk.

@Natalie Clancy and @RosieLily which veg do your Piggies like best? The Ever Beautiful Betsy eats anything that begins with F ends in D and has OO in the middle, Little Meg likes aubergine the best and Pretty Patsy loves a lettuce leaf.
Do you know, I've never tried our wheekers with aubergine! Will give them a go with a little piece next time we have them.

Fennel, parsley and green peppers are like crack to my pigs. I haven’t tried aubergine either, I’ll give it a shot and see what my divas think!

Mine like a bit of cabbage... but literally a little bit of leaf about as big as a cucumber slice. We also give little chunks of broccoli stem - another brassica. I do keep my eye out for bloat but we've not had any adverse reaction. They would get this maybe once every 4 or 5 days.

My newer pigs know I bring treats but still make their own decisions about liking it or not. Occasionally I give a small piece of apple - they leap in excitement and take their little chunk but when it's Zara's turn she drops it straight from her mouth and hangs her head like I forgot her birthday. Now I know I offer her something different instead! But my George is so trusting that I think he'd eat anything I gave him so I'm very careful with him now. He used to only eat something new if my previous pig Ivy tucked in first and she was very savvy.

If you piggies like banana, then I know of a good healthy treat! Mash some banana and a small amount of oats together. Then, add any veggie that your guinea pig also likes and now you have a healthy treat for your piggies! But, I think they will only like this recipe if they like banana.

Banana should be given as a VERY occasional treat. Mine only get banana when they need syringe feeding and I add a VERY small amount of mashed banana into their syringe food along with a few oats to help with a bit of weight gain. Occasionally, they may get a small piece of banana skin as a treat.

Mashed banana and oats is actually high level junk food for guinea pigs.
In our house it is only fed in times of medical emergency and on birthdays.
Oh, and that one time I accidentally gave Ruby a full bath instead of a bum bath and had to use banana to stop her ripping my hands off while I was drying her!

Mine are a bit miffed at the moment due to the sudden withdrawal of banana now that Priscilla has recovered from her op.
Feeding a sick piggy is the only time mine get banana.
They love coriander, cucumber and rocket.
Red lettuce is the best, romaine next and lambs lettuce gets me the ‘what is this stuff?’ look.
They quite like chicory, fennel is good too.
Pepper has to be red, not green, or yellow or any other colour.

I was always told to treat banana in piggies as being a bit like Mars Bars to humans. Delicious but definitely a high sugar treat

I’ve always thought green is the best since it’s lowest in sugar?:hmm:

It probably is but mine won’t eat green pepper!
They only get a small piece about 4 times a week of red pepper and minimal high sugar foods anyway.

Damn it, I thought you meant in in a general sense, that only red peppers should be fed to piggies:doh:

Don’t mind me, I’m dumb on Fridays.

Mine love green pepper (The Ever Beautiful Betsy will eat anything!) just as well really as I don't like it.

Green is best in cooking and not eaten raw. Mine will eat all colours thankfully. I always buy the three in a pack. They also like cucumber and green beans. But the other they overlooked the cucumber for their pepper! I've never tried mine on banana.
