Hi everyone,

I am a New Guinea pig mum and unfortunately I bought a cage from Pets At Home that said it was big enough for two guinea pigs (which I stupidly believed!) but it’s really not big enough. I don’t want to start from scratch as this cage was already a lot of money. Does anyone think I can still keep the base and build a second layer using grids & a Correx sheet for the top layer, with a ramp? I’ve bought 20 grids, Will this be enough?

Hmmm not a bad idead and looks like you have enough grids so yeah. That cage is super tiny. I have another idea as well! You can also wrap the grids around the cage, open the cage door, and then you have a extended area outside the cage (you'd probably need fleece or something on the floor though) however you'd probably need more grids then in the photo.

Hi!
I have a similar set up to what @cavylover2002 is suggesting. My boys have a 120 and a 100 cage in an L shape in the corner of the room with the doors open and then the C&C grids in a big pen all around. They’re sort of confined to the dining area so they can’t chew any wires or hurt themselves at all but have got plenty of space to run around and can hop in and out of the cages when they want to. I use the bendy play sticks things to make a ramp for them going in and out of the cages. They love it ❤️

This looks really good, are they okay on the laminate floor like that? I have a carpet so I will have to put fleece down x
They don’t mind being on floor, actually they spend most of the time on the floor, but it does need swept

You should take that shelter/ramp thing out as it will free up abit of extra room.

When we got are piggys we had that very same cage. But when we got are pigs they where tiny. We had it a few weeks before we got them a bigger one.

2 separate houses at either end would be better aswell so they can get away from each other.

Following this post as I want to connect an old cage I have like that to my 5x2 C&C cage but not sure how to do it. My pigs aren't keen on using a ramp and I don't think they'll be able to jump over the side as its 6.5 inches high. My current thoughts are to saw a gap in the side of the cage and the coroplast, and put a tunnel through (so there's no rough sides and no chewing!). Seems a shame to damage the cage though..........!
