Hello,

I have been looking at these two adorable girls for a few weeks. It looks like they are living with a rabbit and in a horrible mess from the photo i keep looking at. Now i have 3 girls in a 2 x 5 already and if i got these other 2 what size do you think i would need to house 5 girls and a neutered boar. Bearing in mind 2x5 is **** the max length i can fit in my flat right now. Building upwards is one option. (currently looking to move to a house with garden etc with my mum so will have plenty of space eventually)

I just feel really bad, they are only 9 weeks old and if that rabbit booted one i dread to think what would happen. :(

Any ideas would be very helpful on the housing situation. Thanks

Good on your for wanting to give those poor piggies a home!

I would recommend building another story on top, connected by a ramp. That is what I have done for my group in my living room. The Tribe have the run of the living room during the day and are getting a quickly assembled temporary play pen attached for when I'm away for longer than a day.

Make sure that the front of the lower story can be completely opened (using cable ties rather than connectors, so you can pull out the correx tray for cleaning and changing - otherwise it's very wiggly to get in!). Laura-CCC4 has used a couple of steel rods tied to the grids to stabilise her upper story. I use a pull out piece of wood for the bottom front of the cage so I can open it fully. With the weight of the upper story resting on it, the piggies can push it open.

I have also created more space by adding a couple of mezzanine floors made from a simple wooden frame with a coroplast tray on top. the tray lifts our easily for the twice daily spot cleaning. The mezzanine on the top has an old towel draped over the top and acts as a well used dorm. I have never had a problem with a piggy wanting to jump out, but if you want to you can construct a lid made of grids for safety.

Omg, i have just asked if they are living with a rabbit and ahe said yes!
Their food bowl is manky, like its just been topped up and never tipped away so its all dust and dregs in the bottom, and a few blades of grass have been put in for the photo i suspect. All around them is old food and just mess! Makes me so mad. I treat all mine like royalty, even my borfriend moans that they get better treatment and food than he does!grrrr

I would post the photo but dont quite know how.

I am getting them on fri, just arranged it with the woman. I am hoping my mum will let them stay with her while i make amendments to my current c & c. She has a ferplast 100 going spare which will be ok for them as a temporary measure. Theyare used to living outside so i am wondering whether to get them a hutch instead and keep them at my mums so they will have access to the garden, and them when we move in together introduce them to my girls then. Will also be good quarentine for them incase they have anything wrong.

Will let you know on fri what happens and try and get some pics of them to put on.

I never thought i would be this mad about guinea pigs but its taking over my life lol. If my boyfriend finds out i have added another 2 to my lot he will go mad. Oh well we all have our vices!

Best of luck!

Most of us know the feeling and have to deal with less than cuffed OH's when they come across yet another furball (or two, or more...) mallethead

Ok so i collected the two girls, and my oh my what a state. This woman had rabbit hutchs in both her front and back gardens with rabbits and guinea pigs in together. All the hutches were no where near big enough for the size of the rabbits. One big rabbit was in a very small triangle ark run, no room what so ever to stretch its legs.

The girls were in with a rabbit in this tiny hutch. The rabbit had hair missing off its back, she said the guinea pigs had done this to it. I have checked them over and they dont seem that bad, one has a matted bit of fur by one of its back legs, which i will deal with when they have settled down abit.

I am going to settle them in their new hutch for the night and organise a bath for them as they stink like urine.

Will get some pics when i can they are very skittish.

Well done again to you, even if they have to be in a temp cage it will be a better life than what they had by the sound of it....cant wait to see the piccy's of them. are they all deffo girls and none preggers? just thought i'd ask!
well good luck with settling and cleaning them...sounds like you have done a fab job already. x

The first thing i did was check if they were girls. They definatley are but as for the pregnant bit, they dont look pregnant, i hope they are not. Now you have me worried lol.

it really disheartens me how people can be so ignorant and cruel but people like you reassure me that there are nice people out there. thankyou x

Did you speak to the woman about the living conditions of the other animals.

No i didnt, I'm not very outspoken like that. My mum says i should report her to the RSPCA, funny thing is they live not far down the road from our local branch. I suppose i should of said something really as i do keep thinking about them.
