Hi there,

I'm just buying all my materials for a new C&C cage I'm making for my two boys - the lower part will be 6 grids x 3 grids and in a change to my original design i want two upper levels either side for their sleeping area's (they will either be 3 x 1 or 3 x 2 L shaped).

Because i'm looking at having two upper levels i need to have two ramps - ideally i'd love to have Turn Back style ramps as my new boy JJ hasn't/wont use the current ramp/tunnel setup in their hutch (it's been nearly a week and he still wont use it, even though he's watched our elder pig Homer use it).

The problem i'm having is that i can only find 1 website that sells the Turn back style and rail ramps made from C&C grids - unfortunately they are based in the USA and i'm based in Birmingham UK. The total including shipping for two turn back style ramps works out at £34 - while 2 of their normal rail ramps works out at £25

Does anyone know where i can buy the ramps from in the UK?

I suppose i could buy the materials and attempt to make a ramp myself - but i don't have either the knowledge or tools to make them.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Can you send a link to the ramps so I know what you mean?

Hi there,

The site ive been looking at doesn't have an image of their turn back ramp - but i grabbed an image from google:

Here is the direct link to the site that does the ramps i'm talking about (directly linked to their rail ramps):

ooh they look nice, we just bent a couple of the small mesh grids then the OH attached some carpet for grip. Its great but they do like to pee on the carpet!

I made a ramp out of a wooden shelf I got from homebase. Stuck carpet on it and two screw hooks at one end which hook onto the mesh. Easy to take on and off. :)

Hi, Thanks for the replies.

I love the idea of a wooden shelf - i did wonder how i would attach a wooden one to the grids - how simple an idea to use screw hooks - i never would have thought of that (can you tell i'm no good at DIY?)

Likewise the idea of bending a C&C grid is good - exactly how easy are the grids to bend? (ive just ordered mine but did wonder whether i'd need some industrial tools to bend them with lol)

If anyone has any more idea's on home-made ramps i'd love to hear them.

I must admit i am in love with the turn back ramp - but i seriously doubt my ability to produce anything remotely close to it's design. rolleyes

I bent a grid that I was going to put in the corner as a hay rack but didn't use it in the end. I just knelt on one end and pulled up the other several times till it bent! :)

The mesh grids are easier to bend than the normal grids. You can bend them over a piece of wood with some brute force. Have you looked at the cavy cages website? This is just one page
http://www.guineapigcages.com/options.htm
but if you put 'ramps' into the search facility you'll get even more examples, some have instructions on how to build.

My boyfriend did it the same way flips said, he stood on a piece of wood and then bent the grid around it, hard to explain in type! Works perfectly though and you can utilise the mesh of the grid to cable tie the carpet to. We then strapped some coroplast either side to prevent piggy toes getting trapped :)

Here is Freddie modelling my ramp so nicely!
