I picked up my C&C panels today from DHL, put them together to see how big a space I need to clear etc etc. Popped in Audrey and Mr Mushnik to see how they liked the new space - Mr Mushnik ran straight through the grid! Whooooooops! Going to have to make a temporary cage out of the mesh panels until the bubs are bigger me thinks! :))

When i first read this thread it made me panic as i just bought some grids and am going to do a trail run this weekend. But i have two fully grown piggys so shouldnt have any problems, thank goodness for that! :P

Hope you get your sorted soon.

I was looking at these C&C panels. Are they actually designed for guinea pigs or are they so fabulous that they make great guinea pig homes? I was looking at the website and it was listing the places that they were stocked such as household shops. If so - where do you get the base from?

If its just me being a bimbo I do apologise!

Love the name Mr Mushnik!

They are storage shelves, but make great piggie cages that you can adapt easily to make bigger/smaller/multistorey etc. but my babies are only just over a fortnight old!

Most people use coroplast (also known as correx ) as the base and make a tray to sit in the cage - Its the fluted plastic that for sale boards are made from. I've found this site but haven't ordered any yet http://www.mybuildingmaterials.net/damp-proof-courses-dpc-26/damp-proof-membrane-101/correx-sheet-black-2440-x-1230-x-2mm-c02b-424.html

And the name - I'm a huge Little Shop of Horrors fan :red Two of the other babies are called Seymour and Audrey to go with Mr Mushnik (Well Audrey will stay with the girls, but the names are all from the musical!)

It's because they are so fabulous - versatile and comparatively cheap. For the base we recommend correx from a local signmaker, which can be adapted to any shape or form.

But they are NOT ideal for agile little pups hellbent on discovering the world by squeezing through the tiniest gaps... rolleyes They need extra security for the first few weeks. (Chicken wire, perspex, higher correx rim or lino etc)

I'm looking forward to pictures.

Hee hee that's so funny :)) :(|)

Whay a clever baby getting though.

I would go with the high correx sides personally until they are a bit bigger and can't squeeze through.

I ordered 2 sheets of correx today (incase I go wrong and so I have some spare incase I expand!) £16.50 a sheet (in black) 3mm thick. Hope thats not crazy expensive (don't tell me if it is or I'll feel bad! Hehe) plus £8 delivery as I wouldn't be able to get it home myself. It's coming on Tuesday.

I found another site that was cheaper, but it was also thinner and the company I've gone with is in Leicester and they deliver it themselves rather than post it. I phoned the nice man and explained where to leave it etc so should be a lot less hassle than couriers - Couriers really bug me! No matter how many times I give permission for it to be left in a safe place, they wont leave it! grrrr! Which means we have to go pick it up! We had to collect the panels from DHL yesterday.

But yes, Tuesday should be the day when I have all the bits :(|)

The K9 Capers parcel came today with the big bag of pellets and storage bin and water bottles, so just waiting for the correx :<>

OOH wont be long now then! Can't wait to see it.

What dimensions are you doing in the end?

I think 3x4 with a loft bit to begin with, I think that will be big enough (?) I'm meant to be clearing a space now but hmmmm look at me browsing the forum inbreeding

Nothing wrong with that. I am in the eye of the storm right now. After months of hell the carpets are being fitted in our bedrooms today.

I am taking some time to browse the net before crazy time starts again in a couple of hours!

Yes me too and ours have needed doing since we moved in. But if i could turn back time a few months ago I would never have gone down this road and just left it all.

Still too late for all that.

back to your cage - I'm so jealous of your big cage. My C&C is big in that it's 4 x 2 by 3 floors but one day I want a huge open top one and yours sounds great. Really big enough.

hows the cage coming along?

It's not at the minute! The correx should arrive tomorrow, but I cleared the other side of the lounge and built a cage with the run panels and introduced Mabelle in with Sasha, Penelope and Audrey (all went well!) and then Seymour and Mr Mushnik are in the rabbit 120 cage :)

I have to say, there was a LOT of squeaking! But the boys have calmed down now yay :(|)

Here is the current set up;

(On a different note completely; Anyone noticed that the smilies have changed order? How confusing@))

Abby & Molly escaped at first also...(i had no coroplast in yet) But I made the side higher...Now they are bigger and I cut down the front piece and they look through it to get their veggies. They place their little feets up there and beg beg beg for food!

OOH that looks good.

I have 5 huge sheets of black correx coming on Friday ( i hope) and I plan on giving the rabbit 150 an upstairs finally as well as using the black to re-line the 3 storey cage as we have a mix of colours in there and some floors spliced together where we have expanded over and over. This time they can be nice and neat and all one colour.

It's going to be cage building this weekend for lots of us I think!

Interesting - can you actually use the correx to make a 2nd level in a cage? Is it strong enough?

I have a 150 x 74 cage for my piggies that are currently reserved (squeeee with excitement) - it already has one level but there's sufficient headroom to add a third. I'm trying to think of the best way to do it and did wonder if correx was strong enough to do this. Advice appreciated :))

Your cage looks wonderful! How many grids did you use to for the length, i cant quite see? It looks much bigger than the rabbit 120 in the photo. I'm hoping to make mine before christmas or if not i will have to wait till after. :(
