I've been looking into upgrading my boys cage for a while now but I've been torn between getting this commercial cage:

http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/guinea_pig_cages/120_cm_cages/95921

Or a C&C from:

http://www.candccages.co.uk/

The commercial cage is bigger then I've see before and comes with the stand at a good price. Although I know it could be better size wise I'm very conscious of the fact I have a cat, and am going to have another cat here for a while (she's boarding with me for around a month). I feel the commercial cage would be much more secure although it loses on size.

The C&C obviously offers much more room which is expandable but is much less sturdy, even with a reinforced lid.

I've been weighing the pro's and con's in my mind for quite some time now and am leaning toward the commercial cage for the security reasons. Although I would love to hear what you guys think!

What cage do you think I should get for my boys?

I think it looks fit for 2 piggies (don't quote me on it as I'm no expert) providing that they get extra floor time. I will point out that the platform is not good for feet so you would need to modify it. Did you know that for half of that price you can actually buy a complete c&c cage set up? I didn't know that until I shopped around. I am sure that someone with more experience will be able to help, but for me I chose a c&c 2x4 cage and you can get them with lids to keep the cats out. Boys need as much room as you can give them. Hope this helps and I hope someone on here can guide you better.

Hi,

I have this cage, I got it from eBay it wasnt cheap but I love it. I never took to c and c so my grids are redundant in the shed. I wanted something that I could move to clean easily around it. I didn't use the silly ladder or the grid shelve you get.

When I measured it internally it took four grids long by one and three quarters wide so basically it was 4 x 2 near enough.

I found it very easy to clean as well.

The shelf is one of the things putting me off, I was planning to cover it somehow but I can't work out how I would do it :^-

This was really helpful, I haven't found many people who have had this cage! I'm still torn, but now leaning toward giving a 5x2 with a loft a go when the space in my room opens up :)

This is similar to the liberta 150 and its great for 2-3 piggies, only thing that needs changing is the shelf (cover it with old carpet or fleece) and the ramp needs covering too. To be honest for the money you could make a C&C cage and have change :)

Some other large commercial cage options, one is even bigger!:

any of those 140/150/160cm cages are ideal for 2-3, I use 120cm cages indoors due to lack of space and having older piggies who dont really seem to mind one bit :-) I'm a commercial cage kind of girl these days I have a terrier and a cat both of which like to watch the pigs (pigs arent bothered) but I wouldnt leave them in an uncovered cage with the cat/dog around!

I didn't use the shelf but put it in yesterday but to just use as a quiet area and tied the ladder up, used fleece to cover the grid with, they love laying under it, I didn't attach it down so it does just slide along when I want to clean under it. I don't think I would use it for the purpose intended though. As mine have got older they have got lazier. I'm glad I bought it though but I don't use the lid so it does look like a c and c:)

The C&C is actually cheaper then the commercial cage but I'm still a bit uneasy about the sturdiness of them, although C&C's are just brilliant and they look amazing! Would it be possible to cover the shelf with Correx?

This is my issue, even with a lid I don't think I'd feel safe letting the cats in my room with a C&C, and my cat virtually lives on my bed! Commercial cages feel so much safer to me, and they look a lot easier to clean! That last link for 160cm cage is very appealing right now :)) although a stand would be nice too drool

My boys love jumping and heights so I know they would definitely use the platform, although they would love hiding under it making hay caves too :))

Re: above.
Yes you could cover the shelf with correx, in fact that would be ideal :-)

the 160cm cage looks ginormous! I had a ferplast 140 and loved it but dont have room for cages of that size any more sadly. Little pet warehouse are alright, ive used them for hamster cages, parcel would be sent via DPD who text you with a time they are going to deliver and if its no good you can rearrange! Ideal!

Ohhh that sounds ideal! I'm having to restrain myself from getting it now! I would if I had more room :)) Piggies take up so much more space then you anticipate...

LydiaMinx,

I just measured the tray on the cage it is 147cm or 58" if that helps then there is the stand which takes up another 2" so really it is nearly 5' long.

Oh wow so it is quite some size! Is it good quality? Some cage bases feel so cheap and flimsy

Yeah it is good quality not flimsy, it is deep though which my guineas seem to like, I suppose it's in case you use it for a rabbit.

The base does slide out but I don't bother doing it.

I think mine was a bit more expensive than the price on here. It looks neat though I hung some bunting and lights on mine.

I can't do pics from my iPad thats the problem or I would put one on for you to see.mallethead

Its a good job though, I would be putting pics on all the time.8:)

Very please someone else had this exact cage though, I was skeptical of the quality as the brand is unknown, thank you Silly :)

Aww, that's the trouble with 'add to basket' it's so easy isn't it.:))

Don't want to start a new thread.. but am in the same predicament...i want to get new cages for my girls...would need two cages...but don't know eather to make two c&c's and stack them or stack 2 Ferplast 140's or a Liberta retreat rabbit cage 150 or another cage. The biggest space i have really is 150cm. Any suggestions on what is better. I have a dog, but he dosnt really go in my room..as i keep the door closed...but as he comes in sometimes i would need a 2 high up cage's out of reach and sight or 2 closed cages. Am just in two minds what to get etc...Wont be getting the new cage until November/December probs..so i can save up.

first time i've seen a commercial cage that is a good size .I would think a commercial cage is safer when you have larger animals as well Mine are in c&cs in spare room with gate to keep dogs out . If you wanted more space you could always add an enclosed run when you are there to supervise .Lucky piggies

There are 2 tier cages for sale on Zooplus that are quite a size, and I've seen that people board up the ladder hole ans use them as two separate cages? That might be good for you as it is sturdy as well :)

I wish cats were put off by gates :( They seem to think it's more of an invitation then preventative! And that's a good idea actually, I still don't know D:
