We're moving house in a couple of weeks, and our Piggles have been allocated a whole room to themselves! I'd like to construct one of the C&C enclosures, the list of suppliers is fantastic! I'll work out how many squares I need, and I'd like to use Vetbet as that seems easy to source too. What goes underneath please, chaps? Newspaper, then correx? My husband said, if you use correx (he used to work with it any doesn't like it) what happens in the corners? The wee would seep out! Any ideas for alternatives would be gratefully received.
The footprint of their new area would be 2 metres in width, I'd yet to decide how long, probably three metres I think. So any alternative ideas would be gratefully received. Also, any tips for making the move as comfortable as possible for them? Should we move all five all together, or split them into two and three?
Thanks in advance!

Not sure about the correx, my OH is too mean to let me have a piggy room (who needs a dining room anyway!). In relation to moving how long in the moving process going to take? If a while best to try and keep them together if only over the course of a day then splitting them should be fine and probably easier for you to manage.

Most people use towels or washable incontinence pads under vetbed or fleece. The wee is soaked up by the bottom layer. I've never found an amount of wee that coould seep out of anywhere. The correx is easy to spray and wipe clean too.
Some people use lino but don't know how you'd make a lip to stop all the poops being pinged out.
Have you had a look at the gallery in the housing section. There's lots of ideas there. :)

Hi :)p

I have a c&c cage with a correx base and i just use towels under the fleece- with newspaper between the towel and fleece in the ares they wee which i replace everyday (I put newspaper under their house and under the ramp where they tend to lie down)

I just celotaped the sides of the correx together and have never had a problem with wee seeping out, it should get soaked up with whatever you put under the vetbed- i'd use towels which do a great job!

Hi there :-)

I build C+C cages for a living and i use a good tape from b and q you can buy waterproof tape that sticks the correx at the corners and you can pour 3 pints of water into the correx and it will sit there and not leak anywhere if the corners are taped together properly.as for materials sourcing depending on the size of the cages i would use wickes for the cubes (cube storage unit) But for the base i would reccomend Piggyparadise as vicky is very helpfull i would offer a price but i am snowed under at the minute and there is already a 5 day waiting list lol

oh and primark for cheap LARGE fleeces but remember to wash them a few times befopre you put them on your cage as it wick's the urine away better.I buy fleece on the roll form a supplier but for my own pigs i bought shed loads of fleece sheets from primark and theye have lasted me over a year now.

Alternative to Correx?

Any bright ideas as to an alternative plastic base similar to an inside cage, like a Nero, to avoid the need to construct the correx base? So a large plastic tray of dimensions 2 x 3 metres ish, with a lip?
Some gardening thing?
Thanks so much for your help so far, any other ideas so gratefully received :(|)

Not sure why your husband is so against Correx - or similar, especially if he's experienced in using it?

It's simple - you just measure it, leaving a few inches around the sides for the walls and cut it gently (without going right through) with a stanley knife so the edges lift up to make the outer walls and the corner flaps fold up. Just like making a box. Use some really good duck tape or tarp tape for the corners or any places where the knife has cut through.

:)

Think hubbie doesn't like Correx as it's not as environmentally friendly, or maybe it's not as flexible as currogated cardboard? I'm guessing! Thanks so much for your helpful advise, I have been thinking about it, and I think Correx has got to be the most flexible option. I'm going to get some of the bits and pieces today. Hope the Piggles appreciate it! Thanks so much again. B-)
