Hey,
I'll be building a C&C cage soon 2x4 and I have two cats. I'd like to get some sort of lid to protect the piggies. I won't have any spare grids so can't use that. I thought of using corrugated plastic but that won't hold I don't think. I don't particulary want to use wood beams as it looks ugly.

Someone mentioned a wire shelf, I've been googling for ages and I can't seem to find one wide enough/big enough WITH a lip (So it goes over the cage and doesn't fall through).

Can someone help me find what I need?

I think the cage is roughly 4.6ft ( 56" ) x 2.4 ( 28" )

I know that the wire shelves people are on about are quite commonly found in America and that is what they use over there. Not sure how easy they are to find here in the UK

I would try Ikea. They are likely to have something like that. I would cable tie the far end so that it sort of hinges and can lift up easily. And if there isn't a lip to hold it up you could get a few clips (dog clips, bull dog clips etc) that should help it from falling down into the cage along the front

Found something exactly what I want.

I'd need two of those shelves with lips, but I can't find any, and I doubt they'd have any that's 56" long!

Are you in the US? If you are, you can find 16" deep shelves that are 6 or 8 feet long. You can have them cut to size.
I've seen them at Lowes and Home Depot.

Sadly I'm not, if I was I wouldn't have trouble finding any of the cage materials. Thanks for the suggestion though :)

You could stagger the grids to make the lid longer than the cage.

I'd imagine you could build the lid from wood or correx. Since the side grids will provide enough ventilation, the top could be solid.
