We have made a lid out of grids. I don't know the physics of it but it opens from the middle so there are 2 sides to the lid. Does that make sense? I will try and take a photo of it for you later.
That could work - but what is the reason for you creating a lid? If it is to stop larger animals getting it, then I don't know whether the panels from a playpen would be strong enough? unless you added extra support - or the playpen is different to how I'm thinking! Just a thought.
My cats have never bothered to get on top of the lids, they just sit and look through the grids. Depends on what kind of animal and how big it is I suppose.
I need to make a lid soon as my niece is learning to walk! she does it holding peoples hands and crawls but she's never come round without her mum before. Anyway on tuesday I am having her for the first time on her own (only for an hour) but it will be challenging keeping her away from my piggies. She is only 8 months and likes shiny thinks. My sister is worried about her either grabbing the piggies fur or poking their eyes as they are shiny.
Obviously she's too little to understand or be taught not to hurt them and i need to baby proof my house! now argghhh!
Sorry I forgot to make my point! how do you attach a lid that opens? I could make a grid lid to cover the top but not sure how to keep it shut and also avoid trapped babies fingers!
