hi,
I am going to be adopting a cat from the sspca but need to cat proof my c&c cages. I can't seem to find any more grids anywhere ?!?! (Where are they all hiding) so I'm looking for some other options to keep my girls safe.
Has anyone used anything else to create a 'lid'.
Thanks x

Yeah they're out of stock until the 1st of July and I'm hoping to bring gizmo home next week depending on vet and behaviour checks. Would something like this work until I can get more grids?

Yes it would work, but get some garden canes to give the top more support, as you can weave them in and out the mesh. You can also use cable ties to secure the lid on one side as well as using them to hold the canes in place.. x

I built my c&c cage out of shelving parts, and used Elfa shelves tied on with plastic ties to build a lid that keeps out any of the cats who manage to sneak up into my piggy's room. Any sort of metal shelves should work perfectly. but I went with the Elfa ones specifically because the bars are too close together to let curious kitty paws through.

Oh where did you get elfa shelves from?

I got them from Crate & Barrel. It has only just now occurred to me that I have no idea if you have that store or that brand of shelving in the UK.

Just wondering, but are you still looking? It would be interesting to know what you've done in case I ever get a cat.

I'm planning on making lids tomorrow. I will be using plastic mesh from b&q or b&m if they have any, cable tying it to the back of the c&c cages and using garden canes to make it rigid. That's the plan anyway, I will post pictures of the outcome :)

Thank you for the offer but I need 20 grids! The plastic mesh is just temporary until wayfair get their grids back in stock x

So I managed to get more grids which arrived today only problem is not sure how to get them to stop caving in. I've used connectors at the back, cable ties in the middle so it's hinged but the front keeps falling in. What am I missing? image.webp

I was trying to avoid that as I want to make it as easy for me to open as possible but keep them safe. Think it may be a last resort though as gizmo comes home tomorrow.

Dont know if it would work with a hinged top but maybe if you cable tied some more panels on top along the edge of the lid so they stick out slightly and make a ledge to stop it falling in - (If that makes any sense) - if you put them overlapping the existing panels it would help strengthen the lid too
