Right well most of the C&C cage is done but I'm a bit concerned about a part of the upper layer that is not properly supported and no good for the piggies to go running on. I've taken pics of it as is but does anyone have any ideas or tip on how to reinforce the top floor so that its good and safe for my lot?

I've still got correx to line the top floor and the ramp will be made by OH with MDF this weekend and hopefully covered in an off cut of carpet (luckily OH's brother is having his living room carpetted this week!)

Humm, what about using some sort of pillar underneath to support it? Also, you could use a cable tie or string at the top from corner to corner. :)

Yea OH was thinking of some sort of pillar, will make it more difficult when I make the fleece liners but as long as it works, at the moment I use have visions of it collapsing the second Bea puts her fat bum on it hehe

i would put another grid under that bit to support it.

I have an upstairs to my cage and it's just kind of supported and quite sturdy. I think we used cable ties hmmm. I'm no help at all, sorry

tried to edit it wouldnt let me

kind of like this? sorry for the bad pic

Thanks Laura, yes thats another option to the pillar... urgs just want it easily accessible really but sturdiness and safety is my main concern with my piggies

i found the first one easier to clean out than the second. but like you sturdiness first! especially when there are big bums at stake :(|)

Looking at that forum topic it looks like the wooden baton gives more support than a pillar and would make it easier for me to make the fleece cage liner too.... might have a winner here :)

Mine's just a basic two tier, but I've used a metal pole (that was living in our shed) to go right across and between the grids at either end, and it really stops the top sagging, a wooden baton would do the same x
