right so I'm really excited my c & c grid are on there way, iv ordered from b n q sdo have 23 grids to play with lol and a space of roughly 39 by 69 inchs to fit it all in. how would people recommend i set it all out, one floor, 2 floors? how do people find they work best, should i order another set of these or will 23 be enough to start with? and as for correx, how much will i need roughly,

hi :) is that the exact size space you have? that makes 4x2 grids how many piggies do you have? sorry if i've missed it somewhere. i think to start a one level and then maybe add a hay loft later :) that is 12 gris so 23 is plenty you dont need anymore yet. your best bet for correx is teacrate there is a link in the stickies, its cheap and next day delivery (except now lol as its the weekend)

I would recommend a hay loft if you keep your piggies on fleece or vet bed as i found having the hay on the same level as the fleece made the cage look like a complete tip after a couple of hours! which drove me mad!

I have a 3x2 with a 1x2 hay loft. I ordered 2 sheets of correx from teacrate which was more than enough and i have plenty left over. if you go for a 4x2 with no upstairs one sheet would be enough.

I used a single layer of correx fro the bottom, and two layers for the hayloft and also covered my ramp in correx. Also you can never have too many cable ties!

I am still waiting (over 2 wks now) for a sheet of correx, just about to give up so looking for alternatives, new member so would like to use the tea crate link but can't find it. Where are stickies and what are they?

69" is a long as i can go could **** come out a bit wider but not too much as it then would start taking over the dining room haha. i use fleece atm n i understand where your coming from with the hay, I'm constantly piking it up or it looks like they aint been cleaned for ages lol so if i was to hve a hay loft would i have enough grids, also i have 2 boars so would the space be ok if i had it that size?

If you had a 2x4 sitting on the floor with a 1x2 hayloft, you would be ok with you pack that you've ordered, just!

(I've borrowed this link to explain!)

12 grids to go around the edge walls of the 2x4 bit, then 2 for the floor of the loft, 6 for around the edge walls of the loft (you'll need to overlap them to leave a gap for your piggies to get into the loft) and 2 for the ramp = 22 grids.

so i could just about do it, would this be big enough for 2 piggies, i can see me being greedy and ordering another lot of grids haha, so from that link with the correx, would one piece be ok, its somethinklike 2000 mm isnt it, that sounds massive will it be enough?

If you didn't use the connectors to put the cage together, you just cable tied it all (I've seen black cable ties in Wilkinsons if you have one near to you? I think B&Q do them too) then your cage will be 4 cubes x 2 cubes which will be 56in x 28in (1422mm x 711mm) so you'll have plenty left over in the length to make the lip of the tray, the width is also big enough to have a good size lip. There will be enough if you wanted to use the connectors too, I just find it easier to work out the calculations based on if you didn't. You'd need a second sheet to make the loft tray.

Also, I recommend making the loft tray first, because you'll have loads spare on that sheet, you can have a practice to get the hang of cutting/scoring the correx.

Another thing, even if you are going to use the connectors that come with the panel, you'll still need to cable tie for added security. I found some of my connectors were fine and others popped off easily.

Good luck building! :) Here's a good calculator for converting lengths.

EDIT! As for it being big enough, I'm sure Joey&Gizmo (member on here) has a 4x2 with a 2x1 loft for her two boys and it's plenty big enough. She has the correx tray for the base of the big part of the cage on the outside of the panels though, so it holds the fleece in place and less poops fly out !

There are some close up pics of her cage in this thread to show what I mean about the correx on the outside. I'm not sure how she lifts the cage for getting the fleece out though, I've never asked her! I think it looks nice and neat though.
