Hi there,

I'm currently trying to design my C&C cage and thought I had come up with some good ideas but then I read somewhere that you shouldn't have more than two levels or more than one loft - what are everyone else's thoughts? Is there any reason for this?

I had originally planned to have at least two lofts (would 3 really be pushing it?) and perhaps also incorporating a basement if I chose to build a stand - does this sound ok?

Also while I'm posting, has anyone got any good advice for building ramps - I was just going to use Correx (maybe doubled up for extra strength) but then I wondered how the sides would stay up?

Thanks for any advice offered :)

(p.s. - if anyone has any good sources of grids or correx, either near glasgow or online, that'd be much appreciated :)

Hi Nicola and welcome.
Here are some of the forums sections on C&C

Plenty of ideas there for you.
I doesn't really matter how many levels or lofts you have as long as the structure is stable and safe but bare in mind that you have to clean it out regularly, so a compromise might be in order.

you can use cat scratchers as a ramp or bent over c&c grids covered with fleece or something with grip.I saw on one post that they attached fleece tunnels to ramps so guineas can't fall off. Have seen three tiered c&c before and they look good

Just make sure your piggies are ok with ramps too. Not all piggies like/will use them so it'd be a shame to set up a few lofts or a basement and find they didn't get used.

Ramps need to be nice and solid and grippy so little pigs can get up and down them safely and side help reduce the chance of them falling off the sides of it.

Thanks for the advice. I've got the cage up and running now - made ramps with correx, I put an extra layer on the under side to add extra support and made the sides about 9cm high to ensure they don't fall off at all. I was a bit concerned they wouldn't get used to the ramps at all but I was careful about making them not too steep and the boys LOVE them! They zoom up and down them and one of them has a a half landing which they love to sit on :)

I'm really pleased as it has given them so much more room to play and run in and to explore. I'm hoping to get pictures of it up either today or tomorrow :)
