Hi guys!
I haven't currently got any little piggies, but am looking to rescue a pair over the next month. I'm looking into building a C & C cage and using fleece bedding, but I'm not confident on building the correx base.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how to do this? I'm particularly wanting to know what size to buy (for probably a 2x4 cage). and the best way to go about measuring and cutting.

I found that my piggies would eat the correx and when I say eat i mean eat. So I changed to lino. I have a 5 by 2 Base lined with lino and have used file binder edges to top it to stop chewing, and then I have a 2 by 4 loft also lined with lino.

I built the grid cage first, then measured length and width, then added a border of 10cm all round to those measurements (so added 20cm to length and 20cm to width). I also did the same for an upper deck consisting of 2 grids. I bought the correx in a b&q style diy store. I very carefully measured and drew on with pencil where the borders would go. Then I used a stanley knife with light pressure along a ruler to score the borders, then folded them up to make a tray. I then taped over the corner tabs with wide sellotape, on the outside. To actually cut right through the correx, I also used a stanley knife, pressing harder, and scissors for some of it.
For the main downstairs part in 2x4 cage, I needed a piece approx 90x165cm including borders. The shop didn't have that size, so I taped 2 pieces together with an approx 5cm overlap, all sealed with wide tape. Just make sure the tray fits inside the grid cage, it obviously needs to be a tiny bit smaller than the cage itself. I'm terrible at DIY and did manage to make it successfully!

Lino's a good idea.

If you prefer to use Correx, It's easier to cut and score ( i.e. part cut the fold lines ) the 4mm than the 2mm . The trick is getting the hang of scoring the correx and I advise you practice on an off cut a few times.

Here is an old thread ...

Any tips on cutting/fitting my Corex?

and here is a template ...

Thankyou guys this is really helpful! I'm thinking of doing a 10cm border as suggested. Just got to get the correx delivered and cut it!
