I currently have my 2 pigs in a 120 cage, but really want to upgrade them. I've been thinking about C+C, but have worries about it.

Apart from my complete lack of DIY skills I have 4 cats. At the moment the guineas are raised up in the living room, and the cats mostly pay little attention to them. However when I look at C+C cages they look a bit flimsy and more open than shop bought ones and I worry that if the cats decided to give it a go, they might be able to break into them. I would obviously give it a roof, but wondered if anyone had any experience with cats and C+C and could give me some reassurance that I wouldn't be making my pigs vulnerable.

Thankyou! :)

I think that they could also put their paws through the grids, If i were you and wanted to make a c&c cage i would try and use the mesh panels at the places the cats may be tempted to put their paws through. I think lizajazz has cats and c&c cages maybe worth asking her...

I've had a C&C with cats and yes they can get their paws through the ordinary grids but to combat that I left the correx high on the sides the cats could access.
My cage is on stand therefore only one end was accessable to the puddy tat so correx high that end.

My hubby welded our grids together and made a grid top for it to and reinforced the top with a metal rod. The top is then cliped shut using dog clips, not that we are paronoid or anything ;) as mentioned you could use the mesh grids for the sides the cats could get access to and raising it off the floor may help keep the cats interest at bay.

The cage I'm building is sittng on a board that I had cut to be exactly as wide as it is, four grids by two grids, resting on a slightly smaller table so cats cannot sit on the side of the cage because there is no room. The top is made from white shelving exactly as is pictured here. It was cut to length for free (although I did tip the guy) at my local Home Depot hardware store. Please note there are closet shelves and the slightly more expensive linen shelves for sale in this white coated shelving, which is what I got because the wires are closer together. The kitty cannot get her paws through the bars on this shelving:

thankyou all for your ideas. I'm not sure I'm upto welding! and have no handy man around to help with that! Theres some good ideas on that guineapigcages site, i like all the coloured grids. I'll have to have a hunt around for things I can order on the internet, as we don't have much round here by way of DIY stores.
