After much deliberation I have decided to build a C+C cage as it is the only way I will be able to accomodate a cage large enough for 3 piggies.

I am going to pick up my new piggie hopefully friday if all goes to plan but I need to get cracking desperately!

I need to buy the grids, where can I get these from? It needs to be a shop as I will need to build tomorrow. I heard Costco do them but I didnt see them last time I was there!

Do Ikea do them? Wilkinsons?

Also, where can I get Correx from?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Yes have since seen other threads where they have grids, thanks for the link, I'll definitely be looking there!

Do you know about Correx, where can I get that from?

B+Q out of stock at all stores near me, I have just used the stock checker on their website :(

oh no! and i dont no where you can get the other thing you said!

My guinea pigs have moved in today into a Rabbit hutch plenty of space.

Good luck with your search for C & C cages

Still found no grids. Or correx.

There used to be a guy who sold the grids on ebay, who was from birmingham. He said people could pick them up rather than have them delivered for 7 odd quid, cant seem to find the listing though.

Cant believe NONE of the B&Qs have grids?!

I'm searching the website but can't find anything!

I have read that they do them though

Have just found them on ebay. Item number 370272425090 or 120604074837.The second ones are the cheapest.

That's because all the piggy people beat you to it! Hehe!

I bought mine from this seller, in Erdington, because their P&P is the same for up to 4 boxes. The item number was 170465083969 but has since ended but it still shows up in my 'won' list as having 6 boxes left unsold. You can still search this item number and ask the seller a question, they might still have some to buy?

Correx, I bought from MDP Supplies

Yes thats the one from Erdington! I can see the listing has ended - He has grids but its listed under a different name! He just calls it an interlocking shelf.

Thanks!

Preferably Id like correx that I can get tomorrow from a shop. Can i use PVC correx, is that the same stuff?

Travis Perkins sell correx 8ft x 4ft. It's 2mm thick and about £7 a sheet. Builders use it to protect newly laid flooring.
I think they call it something different now but they should know what you mean if you ask for correx.
:)

Thanks, I think ive found some in the screwfix catalogue but if its the wrong stuff Ill have a look there!

My dad, who always has to find a problem with stuff, Is asking how do you stop the wee seeping out of the corners?

If you look online for guides on making the c&c then it shows you how to cut it and you get flaps that cross over each other at the corners which you stick down. That combined with fleece with vet bed underneath ( which is what we use ) means that we get no wee seepage!

that item he is selling doesnt have grid sdoes it, its made from frosted plastic, would this still ok for them, or are the grid better, as surly they wouldnt be able to see out of this would they ?

Wickes do grids for £14.99 if there's one near you. You can also get them on Amazon. I got my my correx from a local sign maker. Some will let you have offcuts for free :)

Hi, I'm new but I'm also going to build a C&C cage for mine as the piglets are just way too cute to leave outside in the hutch (that I made a special run for haha). I can't bear not to have them in the house!
Just thought I'd mention that I've ordered my wire cube storage thing on amazon.co.uk and I'm waiting for it to be delivered soon. I went to B&Q and even tho my local one said it had 'low stock' it had No Stock (grrr).
I'm glad that someone's mentioned Travis Perkins tho cos there is one very near me and I was struggling to find a cheap source for a sheet or two of the correx.
I'm so excited to make it!
I'm going to put two IKEA Lack coffee tables together as the 'stand' for their cage.
Also I think making the correx 'lips' that rise up around the cage fairly deep means you have less spills outside.
:)

Yep I realised that ebay stuff was the wrong thing. Looked like it from far away! I think I got a bit excitable!

Wow there's a wickes round the corner from me, hope they have it! They may have correx too?

Yeah I thought this too, however my dad asked about the gaps in the sides where the corners join together, and the gaps where the vertical sides meet the horizontal sides.

The overlap would solve the one issue, I think the newspaper would probably solve the other! I'm off to wickes to have a look, I couldnt find the grids on the website

There's a REALLY good youtube video by a lady who is my newest guinea pig hero. She explains all about constructing a C&C cage, and she says that to stop the leaks in the cracks, all you do is cover them with this special celotape stuff that she names. Reckon you could pick it up from B&Q (although I havent looked yet).
I'll give you the link to her youtube vids... check out a few as they are all great.
She's the one that made me want a C&C cage in the first place as I'd never heard of them before:

This will explain all :))

No luck anywhere :( been into wickes, they hadn't even heard of them. B&q, homebase, harveys, pound stretcher, screwfix... None of them have the grids :( bah.

Paaaaaaants.

Question: how many mm thick does the correx need to be so that the corners can be folded up without snapping or breaking?

As far as I know you score down the outside to break one layer and then the inside can bend up, but I might have that wrong. It's just an impression I get. I'll be trying that myself anyway.
I'm having to wait for amazon delivery cos of B&Q being out of stock. Looks like you will to. rolleyes

I think my latest lot is 4mm but my previous sheet was 3mm. You score through just one bit, leaving the other side in tact, however if you do cut all the way through, or it does snap off, just tape it together. It wont cause a problem. I bought clear All Weather Tape from Wilkinsons, you can barely see it. I made lots of mistakes on my correx, I cut EVERY piece too big.... Whooooops!

Well I found a seller for the grids on eBay who let's you collect rather than wait for delivery. As I'm heading up to the Stoke area with my two piggies anyway to meet our new friend, I thought I might as well pick it up at the same time! Got to wait for the correx though, i went to a big craft store and they didn't even have any there. I have an idea that will work temporarily though!
